The " Honey I'm home and I'm bloody starving , what's for dinner " Thread.

The GF is having a hellish week and work so I'm cooking her a meal tonight so she can relax for a few hours.

Going for chicken and apples cooked with bacon in cider with some greens and dauphinoise potatoes.

And leftover cider for liquid refreshment.

Then we're going to decide on where to go on holiday in October or November.

I dont think ive ever cooked chicken with apples cider and bacon. You are getting very adventurous in the kitchen Langers.

Are you using chicken breasts and wrapping them in the bacon? That would be ace.

I would use apple sauce myself. Sear the bacon wrapped breasts. Deglaze the pan with the cider, add some apple sauce to thicken it, few herbs, finish with double cream at the end would be my call.

Opple sauce with chicken? And im a freak for putting mint sauce on me sausage!!

It would mix with the cider and cream rather than be a big lumpy thing on the side. That recipe I normally use for pork fillet, but no reason why it shouldn't work with chicken wrapped in bacon though. Pork I would use a lot of sage in the sauce. With chicken I would probably go for a mix of sage and tarragon. Bung a few finely sliced shallots and mushrooms and you are laughing I reckon.

Pork and sage!!!!!!

Absolutely. A whole sage leaf wrapped inside the bacon you are wrapping a pork fillet in is classic italian cookery

Pork and sage is completely normal. Works like a treat.

Nope - chicken thighs - skin on - and cooking lardons. The apples are quartered and cored and thrown into the pan. Dead easy but really nice. It works brilliantly.

Do you pick the bones on parts of a chicken or turkey???

As me and a neighbour went halves on a deer, I now have a freezer full of the stuff in the garage!

So tonight it's Deer Curry.

Fish n chips eaten out of a newspaper.

Took me back to when I was a babbie :)
