what a pathetic agreement this is. no betting sponsor on the front of shirts.
but everywhere lese seems to be fine, including advertising hoardings.
Getting teams to agree to give up the biggest source of sponsor money is huge and also just the 1st step.

Government have been waffling on about banning stuff but are still kicking the can down the road. At least the PL and the teams have got together to take the first step.
Gambling, whether we like it or not, is a huge part of football so never going to get a complete ban in one hit.

EFL not following the PL as a lot of clubs won't be able to get the same level of ££ from non gambling companies.

No - Croke Park , if it had been chosen , would only get group matches . Croke Park can hold 82,000 . How many will you get for a Group match ? 25k max I would say .
How many other major events will Ireland hold so wouldn't there be a fair bit of local interest to go with the huge numbers travelling from Europe and the UK?

Going back to Euro 96 - even allowing for them messing up ticketing as mentioned before, Netherlands vs Switzerland at Villa Park drew 36k, 35k at France vs Spain at Elland Road, over 50k for Russia vs Germany at Old Trafford. Attendances across the board are way higher now than they were then and the Euros as a whole is a much bigger deal.

Unless the good folk of Ireland only enjoy watching their own team (and God help them if that is the case, as they are shit) then 20-25k as an estimate seems way too low.

Can't use any figures from the last Euros as some grounds had Covid restrictions, some didn't.

2011 Europe league final in the aviva between Braga and Porto had 45k in attendance.
This was at a time when no-one in Ireland had a pot to piss in when we were bankrupt.

Bayern Munich have left Sadio Mane out of their squad for Saturday's league match against Hoffenheim because of the player's "misconduct".

Reports in Germany alleged Mane punched team-mate Leroy Sane in the face following Tuesday's 3-0 Champions League defeat at Manchester City.
The pair reportedly had to be separated by team-mates after the altercation at Etihad Stadium.

Bayern confirmed that Senegal forward Mane will also be fined

Tickets for most championships (WC, Euros, RWC etc) are now sold in packages and in order to get the games you want in the first draft of sales, you often end up with a game/s you are not bothered about. This means 'sales' and revenues are high but also why there are loads of empty seats despite a game being sold out. They do this because unfashionable games/stadia/towns are unlikely to attract the attendance required in it's own right at the prices they charge for tickets/merch/travel etc. Expanding tournaments to include Gibraltar vs Pitcairn Islands in a 104 team WC will mean more of this.

The Pitcairn Islands has a population of 64 - you could play!

As he called him a black shit he should have put the boot in. As always in football the effect is acted on rather than the cause

Sane's dad is from Senegal, that seems really odd. Not saying it didn't happen obviously, but (and if this next bit sounds racist it's genuinely not meant to be) that's almost literally the pot/kettle sitch

No further action be taken against the linesman (Constantine Hatzidakis) involved in the Robertson incident. As Robertson is such a hard nut, he’s probably been given an award for taking him on.

Reminds me of the old "high yellow" discourse from circa-Reconstruction America.
