Half of Old Trafford isn't fit for purpose. The away end for example, the steps up the gangways are horrendous, the leg room is akin to the Steve Bull stand.

Old Trafford - which has the highest capacity in England after Wembley, the Stadium of Light, the London Stadium and Dublin's Croke Park are the four to be dropped from the list.

It's in very poor condition. It hosted the Champions League final on merit in 2003...but that's 20 years ago and it's been left to decline in all that time.

Capacity tends to get it on long lists by default but it's nowhere near the top standard of grounds now.

Agreed. I was in the Sir Matt Busby stand for the RL World Cup final. My knees were under my chin.

He means the capacity is maybe 80,000 so 20,000ish for a group game, which is a reasonable estimate I'd say, would look lost in a stadium that size.

if only 20k turned up for a Euro's game, regardless of opposition or what round it was I would be amazed.

UEFA would put 20,000 people in there before ticket sales. Then you will get fans from each country and then people who just want to be part of an event that doesn't generally rock up on their door step

There were some rubbish crowds at Euro 96. Less than 20k for Bulgaria vs Romania at St James' Park for instance. But from memory they completely borked the ticket process, doubt that would happen again.

It's not top notch anymore, 25-30 years old so needs a bit of sprucing up, added to that, cost of putting seating on the hill and rent to GAA would eat a big bite into whatever money FAI were going to get out of it. Plus only 1 stadium in Dublin was going to be used so may as well use the one they own.
Mind you might still be used, as chances of having Casement Park legal & political wranglings sorted, built and ready for the Euros is slim.
Not sure why we are going along with this anyway, money could be better spent on LOI facilities and academies which are desperately short of funding and vital now that we have had to stop sending children to a foreign country to develop their football education (anyone looking for a positive from brexit there you go).
Will be 3 group games and probably 1 knockout game for not much return, and as only two of the host nations get automatic qualification (not sure how that works) might not be even be invited to a party in our own house

what a pathetic agreement this is. no betting sponsor on the front of shirts.
but everywhere lese seems to be fine, including advertising hoardings.

No - Croke Park , if it had been chosen , would only get group matches . Croke Park can hold 82,000 . How many will you get for a Group match ? 25k max I would say .
