Reminds me of The Hundred in cricket. A game supposedly designed for people who don't like what already exists. Just like that who are these new people? They aren't really there, they are already watching the product which is out there, the clubs just want a higher % of their money
Quite, it's nonsensical. What market are they talking about?

So we're getting 70,000 people jetting in to Manchester every week from Jakarta, Shanghai and Seattle, are we?

I don't get the defeatist "it's happening" mantra as none of it makes even the slightest bit of sense on even the most superficial level. They don't seem to understand that American models don't work outside of America, I mean for a kick off none of their sports are truly global.

But where is the competitiveness of a European Super League? With how the Champions League is set up, its competitive throughout from the qualifying stages, to the groups to the knockout stages to the final. How will a Super League keep the interest for the full season and why would anyone tune in if its a game whereby they aren't competing at the top of the table?
Even for ourselves this season a flirtation, however far fetched, with the wrong end of table has kept it alive to a degree and if we were a few points better off you might still hold hope of a European Spot. If you are 18th in the Super League and can't be relegated where is the interest?

This cuts through the ethos of sport and presents football as entertainment, supporters as customers and clubs as businesses. On that basis it is a legitimate model and puts the highest level of club football of par with WWE - revenue driven by TV money, advertising and corporate sponsorship. It is the obvious step to take if this is how you view football.

I am definitely in the opposing camp, a "legacy fan". The risk and rewards of an open competition are paramount. Wimbledon, Leicester City, Bradford, Barnsley, Bournemouth, Manchester City - all clubs that have risen from the lower leagues to compete at the pinnacle of domestic football. The Premier League is a qualified success, all of the so called big six have had to earn the right to play at a higher level of European competition and reaped the rewards, all have failed to do so at various time and have had to take the pain. As it should be.

The big six have now breached the rules of the Premier League and arguably it is a fundamental breach that goes to the very heart of the contract that exists between football clubs and the Premier League. They, not the Premier League, have breached that contract and they have done so during the season. They should be immediately expelled, their results for this season expunged and those left in European Competition should be expelled from those competitions too.

I do think there is some merit in the format though and if these clubs were to remove the requirement that they were in every season and accepted the need to qualify then there may be room for an agreement to be reached with the governing bodies.

It's two leagues of 10, isn't it? Then it becomes a knockout comp in latter stages.

I agree if no one else can get into it and there's no relegation then a fair chunk of the season is just glorified friendlies

This is the trouble though, they won't remove that requirement because that's one of the biggest factors in them wanting this. They want the guarantee to be at that elite table year in, year out

Yes, 5th gets into a 1/4 final play off so most teams will still be in with a shout until the last few games. It works for them if they aren't kicked out of their own leagues. Porto win their domestic league to keep their "legacy" fans happy and make more money from the SL, even if they are playing 4 dead rubbers

I can imagine the cost of season tickets being more for fewer 'league' games and then having the knockouts in 'neutral' venues all over the world. They've already established domestic fans aren't worth a fuck so who cares if its kicking off at 3am local time.

They'll stay. A PL with them in is worth a lot more than with them out. The other 14 clubs know that and won't take the moral, pure view displayed in the wider football community
I don't think this is true. Man City and Chelsea don't have traditional fan bases nor would people care if they left the league.

The only clubs people would be bothered about is Man Utd and Liverpool but the grounds will still be full and the football still exciting to watch.

If the PL don't kick them out I wonder if the other 14 would resign from the PL and rejoin the FL/ create a new league with SKY continuing their deal.

Would kill the PL stone dead and eliminate the so called big 6.

Sadly we have owners that would jump at the chance of this Super League... So what percentage on here would say fuck watching Wolves again ?

Is it that desirable to the PL for them to stay? Presumably they would focus on the SL, with weakened teams at the weekend in the Prem..?

They’d have financial backing to rotate and be competitive in both. They’d hoover up any quality that exists outside the top 6.
It’ll mean a competition with such disparaging contrast it’ll become a flawed contest.

Honestly, if Wolves treated the game of football with this level of disdain, I'd absolutely check out. Tbh I don't know what I'd do if the ESL goes ahead, and the 6 get to stay in the PL. It completely removes the chances of Wolves ever competing at the highest level, and basically kills competition. However unlikely it is now, it's still at least possible. If it's not, then what's the fucking point?

I wouldn't watch us if we were invited and then decided to play in the Super League but I understand a lot of fans would.

Unsure on the validity as its off Twitter. Fingers crossed be tows the line je has since 2019.

Btw, Im old skool and would step down from watching any Wolves team that competes.

Im interested to know what the ECL standings in the Premier League would work with the Big 6 gone from any qualification.
