The Football News Thread 2017/18 - everything not Wolves

At a certain point you do wonder what the point of qualifiers even is. Just stick all 192 countries in there.

More to the point, FIFA should be exercising its considerable financial muscles to make all of the qualifying rounds more visible globally (and therefore more profitable for small nations that desperately need the cash).

Don't know if it has gotten north to England yet.

A group of Sporting fans, around 50, invaded the training grounds and actually assaulted the players and coaches.

I'm in the Netherlands and what they have done to Bas Dost is very big news. Portugal is not very popular here.

Crazy. Thoughts out to everyone involved with Sporting.

Can you describe them? I don't want to see it if it's gory.

The picture shows a couple small wounds on his head but it might have been much worse.

This is one of the worst episodes in the Portuguese football history.

Just reading about this shocking episode. It's a bad state of affairs when these hooded 'fans' were allowed anywhere near the training ground. I would think all of the players involved will be looking at getting out of there.

Is the President of Sporting mad?

Unless they've changed President then it's the same guy who sacked Marco Silva for dressing inappropriately at the cup final (which he won)...

He kind of is. After the crapshow following the elimination against Atlético Madrid, he tried to suspend the coach and his team after the defeat last sunday. And they still have to play the cup final on sunday.

Not only have they not sacked him, they have re-elected him. Twice.

Video of the dressing room after the incident.

Looking at the World Cup squads Brazil look very strong with some fantastic players not making the 23 man cut. Sure to go close this summer.

Argentina look very strong up top but they are laughably short at the back. Rojo, Fazio and Funes Mori all included

£28m was the 16/17 figure. This season would be more with all the signings we made last summer. And like you say even more now we've been promoted with the bonuses.

Few people commented lately on West Ham fuckwittery...

They've let James Collins know his contract won't be renewed via email.

He's only been there 12 years. Classy.
