It's a strange system considering there's no real regulation of friendlies. If they're going to count toward the ranking they need to be standardized and competitive.

Panama and Costa Rica have submitted formal complaints to FIFA and CONCACAF regarding possible match fixing in favor of Mexico at this year's Gold Cup. Mexico have had two questionable (and a third not-so-questionable) penalties awarded to them in the past two rounds late into matches (one winning PK vs Costa Rica and one equalizer vs Panama), as well as a questionable red card in their favor which reduced Panama to 10 men in the 25th minute of Wednesday's semifinal.

Yep just shows how much of a joke the FIFA rankings are, they've done well in recent qualifiers but are certainly not 10th best in the world.

You could end up with a group that involves Wales, Northern Ireland, Slovakia, Estonia and Moldova. On the other hand you could have Germany, France, Ukraine, Turkey, Finland and Khazakstan.

They work on a four year cycle, so their long unbeaten run comes into play now while all their dreadful results from four years ago drop off. It's not a very good system, it always throws up too many anomalies.

In the light of day it's a very good draw but I just can't be doing with the bullshit from north of the border in the built to both games, just glad I don't live up there anymore like I had to during the play-off in 1999.
