The Football News Thread 2015/16 - everything non-Wolves

Same reason the Champion's League are considering changing the rules so the little teams don't make the grade.

That's a total non-sequitur though, some at UEFA want regular involvement from Man Utd, Liverpool, Milan etc because their presence is massive as far as worldwide viewing figures go. Leicester winning the Premier League makes no difference to viewing figures. Increases them if anything.

Anti-Leicester conspiracy theories are half-baked even by the standards of Wolves message boards that have brought us such gems as Sir Jack is taking money out of the club, Steve Morgan only owns the club so he can build some mid-range homes in Compton and Jez Moxey instructed Hoddle to make sure we finish outside the playoffs so we didn't have pay any bonuses.

That's extremely damning of Lerner.

Especially as neither of those two are likely to have taken an emotional or histrionic decision & are very experienced in their relevant areas

It must be seriously bad for them to take this action

(& we think we have problems whilst waiting for a sale of the club)

The whole thing has been completely overblown. I am sure I have NEVER seen Rooney call the referee a fucking this or that either.

The referee was utterly incompetent yesterday.

If a player is sent off on a Sunday morning, and then abuses the referee, then the referee should report him. It has nothing to do with a conspiracy theory, or the referees performance. The only person to blame for Vardy facing a three game ban is Jamie Vardy.

Despite the fact he shouldn't have been sent off in the first place. And from what I can see from the footage he doesn't say anything particularly fiesty and left the field fairly rapidly.

If charges are going to appear for this nobody will have a bloody side.

If we're to believe this is some kind of grand plot from the FA to stop Plucky Little Leicester (net transfer spend of around £50m in the last two years) from winning the title - a plot which is probably coming too late to affect anything anyway - we also have to believe that the FA are willing to alienate one of England's nailed on squad members less than two months before England play their first game of Euro 2016. Seems fairly unlikely.

He took a dive whilst on a yellow card, got caught and booked for it which resulted in a sending off. I don't think anyone is questioning that (soft first yellow or not). The improper conduct for yelling at the referee is the unusual thing as it happens regularly amongst the bigger teams and they don't get reported.

Why shouldn't he have been sent off? But beside that if the referee mentions misconduct by a player, then the FA will act upon that report. Vardy and Leicester City will have the opportunity to accept or deny the charge. Though either way it could be that Vardy will not play again this season, and all because of his petulance.

I don't think it was a dive as such, he was looking for it and pretty much all forwards do these days, but their legs got caught up with each other. I think it's play on and neither a dive or a penalty.

The media have almost been begging for the charge today, not because they dislike Leicester or Vardy but they know it'll keep the story going.

I am surprised that Andy Carroll has not been charged for his comments about the referee on television.

Indeed, what he did against United was far worse.

It was the "flinging himself to the floor in an over the top superman pose" that got him the card. As a former forward who did quite well at ensuring there was contact before being fouled* (*I didn't cheat or dive) I was embarrassed for him at the awful effort. Nailed on yellow card so a red had to follow although he definitely shouldn't of had that first yellow...It wasn't even a free kick let alone a foul.

This is certainly one thing against extending video evidence beyond line decisions I'd say. From what I've read people are 50/50 over whether it was a dive or a collision that he tried to get the most out of.

I'd only ever give a booking for a dive if there was either no or very minimal contact, but with Vardy there was plenty of contact, his leg ended up caught between the defender's as they were running but because he caused that contact it's no penalty for me.

really hard to call Vardys sending off, never a pen but i dont think its a dive either, yet he was looking to get tangled in with Ogbonnas legs IMO..the ref got most things wrong(both pens really) and lots of other things..he had a horrible game tbh

This bit for me, as unlikely as it is, Leicester are still a team of professional footballers who are well paid. The 'fairytale' is the sad state of our game that clubs outside of a list aren't given any belief that they can compete let alone win the league. That said it is amazing how well Leicester are doing and fair play to them.

I've heard people complaining about how the FA have been 'wanting' them to win on my FB page (mostly bitter it would seem) its strange to see the opposite argument crop up on here. Personally I'm not a fan of conspiracy theories although I can't claim to have watched enough football this season to back up any opinion

Sorry but in my opinion he threw himself to the floor, and having already been cautioned it was not the wisest thing to do. Both yellows were correct so he can have no complaints.

I don't know people can argue he didn't dive. He planted his leg in front of the opposition player then flung himself to the ground. I haven't seen the first yellow so can't comment on that but the dive was definitely a yellow card IMO.

The point is, there was contact. Absolutely initiated by Vardy.

Put this together with comments from commentators about how "we need to be more savvy and go down under contact more easily if we are going to win major trophies" (I think that was Mills last week) and then you can see inconsistency.

So because there was contact that he initiated he is allowed to throw himself to the ground in a dive and get away with it? Are you saying it can only be a dive if there is no contact? I disagree.
