Well done Sunderland. The moment he pleaded guilty the PFA complaints from when he was charged and suspended rather lost their weight. Sunderland have ended up waiting for certainty, and acted decisively when they got that.

The bad thing is that the cretin will get a contract somewhere else in a while

Sunderland will surely be pissed off they have paid him as he claimed his innocence. Any legal options open to them?

He has pleaded guilty to something that carries a maximum penalty of 14 years inside. He isn't coming back.

Not sure. I know Sunderland originally suspended him without pay but that was rescinded after fairly careful negotiations with the PFA. I would think that most of their legal options will depend on what was said in those meetings, and I am sure they will remain entirely confidential.

The girl in the Ched Evans case was of a legal age. In this case she is below the legal age of consent. They are both reprehensible.

Aah ok, he didnt get convicted?

Nope. Ched Evans is still guilty in the eyes of the court. He has been given leave to appeal.

Ok so still not completely decided

It is still decided completely from the first time of asking. Unlike a first trial, he is presumed guilty at appeal unless he can prove himself innocent, so the burden of proof is shifted right round. It is an appeal, not a re-trial, when his presumption of innocence would be put back.

Ok, so no timeframe at all? Could be hard to proove his innocence

Whenever it gets listed by the Court of Appeal. He was granted leave in October, so I would imagine it won't be that far off. Six month lead time wouldn't be unusual though. Plus it will get adjourned at the first hearing and then the barristers will argue about dates to hold it as they will have crowded diaries.

Aah ok, cheers for the info paddy. How many years do you think adam will get in jail? Will he benefit from pleading guilty?

I have no idea about the legal requirements, but surely the longer it drags on, the longer it denies Evans the opportunity to resume his career. That is of course providing he is found innocent.

Johnson? Hard to say. Admitting a sexual offence with a minor is pretty damn serious stuff, but the guilty plea would help in mitigation. Saying that, if he is found guilty of the other offences that he has denied then things could go very badly for him. It is difficult to comment really.
