Indeed it is very sad news, he was simply one of the greatest players to have graced the game. I wish him well in his battle against this terrible illness.

Not sure it is - just more people living longer & not getting anything else first.

Still pretty prevalent decades ago - my dad died of pancreatic cancer 35 yrs ago & he wasn't alone of his contemporaries that I knew

Sorry to hear that, my mom had breast cancer and also cancer in the stomach..she has survived both..i don't think you're right though i think it is increasing

Not really the thread for it but I'll give you your answer.

It is increasing, but as Parkin says it is because we are living longer so are more likely to get it. It is a disease where cells get confused and start replicating badly. Cells that are older and have been taking abuse from toxins (smoking, alcohol, processed foods, chemicals, radiation, pollution, the list goes on) they are more likely to bugger up the process.

As we no longer really die of infectious diseases like we did a few hundred years ago as we realised you can't shit in the water you drink and sanitation has improved then something else will kill us.

People generally didn't live long enough to get it but now we do. Add in to the fact harmful lifestyles and there you go.
