Like I said, I hate playing that card but when it's someone I know didn't go to many games telling me stuff I know just isn't right, I had to play it.

Don't think I generally play the superfan card.

I wasn't having a go at you, was I.

It was Bear saying McDonald was our best player with some kind of authority when actually no, he wasn't and in any case he couldn't say either way.

I know you weren't having a go at me. I was just using my own experience of going to very few games to suddenly going to a lot more to make the point that you don't need to attend a majority of the games to form an opinion on the team.

BTW, there would've been a fair percentage of fans who voted for McDonald in last seasons POTS vote and you need to be at least a MyWolves member to vote on that.

Well they're all wrong, aren't they.

You need a supporter number not a My Wolves member. I think we are all slightly biased when voting for POTS, you see things that others don't (correctly or otherwise) if you really rate a player. I don't think McDonald was anywhere close to player of the season last year, but if you are a big fan and look at what he does well and chose to overlook or find reasons for the games where he was ineffective, failed to impose himself and gave the ball away then I can see why you would vote for him. I went for Dicko, because he the lead the line on his own for large parts working really hard and was massively missed when not fit, but you could say I find reasons why some of his finishing wasn't the greatest and he often failed to complete games

I voted for Dicko, but then I am right and everyone else is wrong, so why should anyone else's opinion come into the equation.

With DW on this one.

As a "Superfan" (800+ games and at least 25+ a season for last 30 years), I think I'm entitled to an opinion on Wolves POTS each year.

I also go to 5-10 Shrewsbury games a year and see 5+ live on Sky, plus the odd one or two in person, of the Big 5/6 PL teams each year. However there is no way I feel 'qualified' in having an opinion on their POTS and wouldn't embarrass myself if in a conversation with a regular at their games by claiming to have one.

I feel I'm as entitled as they are to go, enjoy and watch the games, but POTS votes should be 20+ games a season in my view.

For what it's worth, I had McDonald head and shoulders POTS in L1 [and 'ok' last year] and Stearman in Championship last year. Notable two year mentions to Golbourne (pipped in L1), Dicko, Sako and especially Ikeme for me.

I wouldn't ever like to set parameters, however I don't appreciate being told a certain player is Player of the Season by someone who hasn't even watched a third of the games I did and quite clearly, he wasn't. I'm still waiting for ONE game where McDonald was MOTM let alone a series of them which would qualify him for the POTS award.

Like I say, I fucking hate playing this card, but needs must sometimes.

I like McDonald and would prefer we keep him at the club, but he's certainly not irreplaceable and has looked a real idiot over the Summer [and at Sheffied and Burnley previously by all accounts].

I think what it really shows is the real lack of a ball playing midfielder in our side for 20 years, so that a fairly one dimensional player can so easily placate/delight us fans. Imagine if we got one that could press, tackle and shoot too! It must have been great to have been a fan at Anfield seeing Gerrard do all those things season after season for years.

I also realise that if we had one do all those things at Wolves, he wouldn't be with us long.

I'd take Alex Rae, Karl Henry, Paul Ince (regrettably) and Colin Cameron over McDonald every single time.

I would too.

Henry especially as I think his contribution in the first two/three years is vastly underestimated. Ince was great but sullies his reputation with his yearly contract wrangles and as a consequence not being fit until October, but I bet he really was one hell of a player in his prime (and a total bellend too).

Cameron and Rae were just very, very good Championship midfielders. Found out a level above but had the desire to be a success in every game they played.

I don't think any were the ball player though that McDonald is/tries to be. All of the others could play in a midfield two or four [e.g. 442] if you like, whereas KM needs it to be a three/five/diamond [e.g. 433, 451/41212/4132] etc.

It's quite telling I can only name you four good central midfielders in 27 years.

Rae was good in the PL, we didn't really "do" ball players for many, many years. You would have thought McGhee would have gone down that road but no, Chubs Ferguson was the closest he got.

So many ultimately were bought to fullfil the midfield roles and ending up disappointing.

In no particular order, I remember expecting more from Atkins, Sedgeley, Ferguson, Potter, Gibson, Corica, Milijas, O'Hara and Seyi, Gomez and Castillas (sp?) although the latter I'd never heard of until we signed him.

I voted because he was MY MOTM in enough games I saw last season, plus the opinions I read in the verdicts for the other games.

And that's your prerogative Bear.

I hate this superfan bollocks, there's many a fan who has watched every game since 1901 but still know nothing about football. So I take their opinion with the merit it deserves. Give me an educated opinion over an ignorant one any day of the week.

That's all subjective.

IMO everyone who voted for Stearman was wrong and many of them went to 3x the number of games I did.

Went to all home games bar one as a season ticket holder and Stears well and truly deserved it IMO.
That's just an opinion and it's fine to disagree!

Jones and Cook both had better Championship ball playing seasons for Wolves than McDonald did last year, but he has only had one with us at this level, so better to judge in the future.
