The Film Thread

The Batman films with Christian Bale were great but they're not the same canon are they?

Iron Man was alright, but by the third one I was totally sick of him. Maybe they've just done too many of them and they suffer from overkill?

Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, The Flash - all DC. Completely different universe and the Distinguished Competition to Marvel.

There is a load more Marvel story out there to be told. Bucket loads of great plotlines that they haven't even gone near to yet. The big thing was them getting the rights to Spidey, which were owned elsewhere and so he couldn't appear anywhere until Civil War. Bit bonkers as he has been a key member of the Avengers for years and has also had a stint in the Fantastic Four (he first appeared in a story with FF in his second ever comic appearance back in 1963). If they integrate Spidey (and Doctor Strange which was very encouraging) then the whole Marvel Universe gets a good lift.

I hope they do the Avengers vs X Men story arc soon. That would be ace. Either that, or House of M, which involved just about everybody as well.

I loved Deadpool, liked Antman, and thought the 2 Thor films were quite good, but the Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Guardians of the Galaxy films bored me a bit.

Not seen Dr Strange, Civil War or the 2nd Avengers film.

I'm just a bit bored of superhero films. I'd prefer Hollywood to try and come up with more original films rather than churn out endless superhero films like they seem to be doing. However, they can make as many Star Wars films as they bloody well like :)

Roll on December.

Superheroes, Star Wars and animations seem to be almost the only films that actually get a wide release these days. All a bit dull. I understand they're guaranteed moneymakers but it would be nice to have a bit of variety in the multiplex.

bladerunner 2 teaser. really not sure why they're making a 'sequel' to this. hopefully it won't be shit. not much to see in the teaser though.
i think one of the unknowns from the first was whether deckard was actually a replicant, so bringing back HF when he's an old man seems a bit leading. i'm not sure the replicants ever aged, though most of them had a limited shelf life.

That is CRIMINAL.

Magnificent film. Not sure why they are doing another one, but hey-ho

For those with little kiddies - The Secret Life of Pets, I actually quite enjoyed it myself and the kids loved it!

Not sure if TV series discussion is OT but I finished Westworld, really liked that well worth a watch especially if you are old enough to remember the original film. Very cerebral and a slow starter but very satisfying at the end.

Just in the process of watching The OA with 1 episode left I am far from convinced, shame really as I like Brit Marling.

So many other great sci-fi stories they could do as well. looks like they're doing the talk over version too. I admit to loving that in the original until I saw the version without it, which I now much prefer.

T-Dan - you need to put that right. It is a bit dated but just a classic.

Not sure if you lot like weird films but Oldboy (not the new one, the old one with subtitles) is one of the most messed up films I have ever seen, to say they dulled down the remake is an understatement.

The original (2003) Korean Oldboy is immense. The Josh Brolin one is ok at best.

Shockingly, I've never seen Bladerunner.

Nor me until the other day. We watched it because Ryan Gosling is in the new one and the missus wanted to be familiar with the story before watching it!

I struggled to get into it, tbh. I might give it another go as the premise is brilliant. Maybe it's one you had to watch at the time??

I've read the book but never managed to watch the film. There's a shit version and a good version isn't there?

It's one of many films I should have watched but haven't TBF but I will check it out.

While we are discussing sci-fi, I know it's a bit off topic (could always put this in the book thread) but I would like a few sci-fi book recommendations (Philip K Dick aside). It's a genre I have never really explored but would like to.

There is a great and even more great version really.

Sci-Fi

Peter F Hamilton
Alastair Reynolds
