Hmmm. If it hadn't shown the light-sabres and storm troopers then I would have said that it was just some bog-standard sci-fi film being released. Meh.
The BFG is marvellous - absolutely loved it. They've got exactly the right feel for the film, in particular the sets such as Giant Country, Dream Country and the BFG's cave. The CGI for the main character is also great - the best CGI character since Gollum IMO.
There are a couple of slight changes from the book but that never bothers me if it's done well and makes sense for the film, and I think that's certainly the case here. Went with my GF and the kids and we all really enjoyed it.
For getting me to see Ben Hur, Mr Penguin had to do the honours and see Pete's Dragon with me. What a really lovely film. Enjoyed BFG more, but still, a great film for the kids and adults too.
Didn't they have to reshoot loads of it it was so bad. Probably what they should have done with the ghastly JJ Abrams remake, or simply destroyed it and pretended they never attempted a remake.
The story is bonkers, some strange characters thrown in there, it's a good watch but lacks a bit on drama at times considering there must have been some really tense times in what they were doing, then again it's told through the eyes of one of the perpetrators so perhaps the sort of 'laddy' narrative is intentional, some bit sort of come off making light of big issues and borderline bragging.
Might get the book it's based on to get more of the detail.
