The FIFA Debacle

More a case of how much talking he has been doing. What he is saying is fine and true but just comes across as trying to be the loudest voice in FIFA to make people think we are ace. African and Asian Federations have already asked him to shut up

Any chance that the FA and/or UEFA will get dragged into this?

Mr Dyke is not doing English football any favours with his sensational comments, just comes across as arrogant and a bit of told you so type attitude.

I’m pretty sure most developed countries in the world could state that they can host a World Cup that doesn’t take place for another 7 years. Dyke is an arsehole, if they take the World Cup off Qatar then it should be given to one of the losing bidders for that competition, or another vote should be held.

This just smacks of opportunism on the behalf of the FA and the government and makes us look like a bunch of told you so, up our own arse wankers.

This is the man who had the brain wave idea of having B teams playing in the lower leagues.

Under FIFA rules, the same continent cannot hold successive finals, so that would rule England out of hosting the world cup in 2022, that is presuming of course that Russia keeps the 2018 event.

He's an MP in his country so he has to have an outward public message. Seems he's chosen the victim angle with this whole "in fear of his life" spiel.

Warner has a lot of dirt on Blatter and, remember, it was Blatter who forced him to resign from FIFA. Warner became the fall guy to protect Blatter. Now it's all opening up. The next few weeks are going to be most revealing.

And the allegations keep on coming:

John Delaney [Chief Executive of the Football Association of Ireland] confirms that FIFA paid FAI €5 million in 2009 after the Thierry Henry handball so they wouldn't proceed with a legal case.

Delaney is an even bigger chancer than Brendan Rodgers.

Ray D'arcy to Delaney. 'Have you ever been offered a bribe?'
Delaney: (laughs) Not on my salary

*shudder*

So basically FIFA wanted France in the WC more than Ireland, and despite Henry cheating his way there, offering us 5m to stay quiet was acceptable to Delaney.

Is that a bribe though, or merely an unofficial out of court settlement?

I don't get how they could go legal about it anyway? Referees make shit decisions, you can't sue people, unless the cheating was a deliberate act like match fixing etc

I agree, if Ireland got a pay out for a shite refereeing performance whoever negotiated it should be applauded rather then derided

At least the karma bit France hard and fast.

Indeed, I remember thinking in the days after when Delaney (a man who makes Greg Dyke look shy) was having his 5 minutes of world fame to shut the fuck up you are only embarrasing us now, and then out the blue he did!

Shows perfectly how Blatter dealt with problems with associations, especially the smaller ones by throwing money at them. People over here were puzzled when after Blatter publicly mocked Delaney at the time, Delaney was still a supporter of Blatter, until recently when he sensed the tide was turning and suddenly switched sides, and said fairly strongly Blatter must go (the night before the feds swooped!).

The FAI have made a balls out of their half of the redevelopment of Landsown Road and are heavily in debt and have had their yearly accounts scrutinised by journalists out to get Delaney and I don't think this money was ever mentioned in them ( I could be wrong) and when the Irish Sun broke it last summer it was denied.

So FIFA 'loaned' FAI 5 million. This would only have to be paid back if Ireland qualified for the world cup in 2014. Surely that's a massive conflict of interest for Irish football. Hardly a surprise that they didn't qualify in the end.

We managed to avoid any scrutiny regarding a conflict of interest by being shit with a dinosaur of a manager...

That was an appointment by Delaney which he got away very little stick about. Thinking back not surprised he took the money from FIFA, this is a man who's annual salary (decided by a board which he is chairman) is more then the prize money Dundalk got last year (decided by a board of which he is chairman) for winning the league.
