The FIFA Debacle

I think with all these allegations they should just announce every World Cup after 1966 null and void.

Wasn't the ref in England's victory bribed as well? :icon_wink:

I wonder just how much more will be revealed. I think they may need to look before Blatter's time. The level and scale of the corruption just beggars belief.

Frank,
The bribery and corruption started when Joao Haverlange took office in 1974 and Sepp Blatter was Secretary-General. Blatter has just kept gong the gravy train that Havelange started. When I worked in Trinidad, it was common knowledge about Jack Warner's involvement with both Haverlange and Blatter in terms of money matters. Warner, in turn, involved Blazer when he became Secretary-General of CONCACAF who got caught evading taxes and then "grassed" on Warner and Blatter (Haverlange being already dead) to the FBI. It's taken years for the case to unfold.

I grew up in Wolverhampton in the 1950s and early 1960s and the origin of the word "soccer" as being British derived from "Association Football" was widely known then. Indeed, it was used interchangeably with football while the two terms used for rugby football were "rugger" and "rugby." Hence, I cannot understand why some people get their noses out of joint when soccer is used in an historically accurate fashion. It is very British!

Just seen the video on the gruniad of Warner's televised speech and he names Blatter!, this is going to be be fun.

An avalanche of secrets coming from Warner apparently. Seems determined to bring Blatter down. "He knows why he stepped down"

Popcorn on standby...

the fact that jack warner has been allowed to remain involved with fifa for such a long time just tells you how dodgy it must be.

Wonder what Warner's angle is, bitter that he's been found out and deciding to drag someone down with him or have the FBI possibly looked to strike a deal with him? Guess probably the former given he's blurting it all out in the media and sounds like a right sore cunt in doing so.

Either way it's all quite entertaining... !

He's an MP in his country so he has to have an outward public message. Seems he's chosen the victim angle with this whole "in fear of his life" spiel.

South Africa police have opened an investigation into the $10m payment in 2010.

The FIFA mafia could control him while he was one of them.

control him? i really don't think so. for instance i think they fined his son $1m for his involvement in selling official tickets on at a huge margin in 2006. i don't believe that was ever paid in full. jack warner was a fellow director of the same company but resigned before the shit hit the fan. so if by control you mean 'turn a blind eye' then fair enough. the only time these guys received any sanction from fifa is when a 3rd party finds something out and fifa had to be seen to do something, or if they didn't vote for blatter. and by doing something, a mild reprimand or a fine never to be collected.

We (England) should not be sending out noises that we are ready to bid or can take over the staging of the 2018/2022. We should be stating that all we are interested in is seeing the organisation reformed.

Greg Dyke is beginning to piss me off. In full on motor mouth mode since this news broke before the election. All he is doing is pushing the English FA further away from UEFA and FIFA. Say you are happy Blatter has gone and shut the fuck up.

What's Greggy been syaing?

Yesterday morning on the radio, Ruud Gullit said that England were only interested in getting the world cup, and sadly that is how we are often perceived by other nations.

More a case of how much talking he has been doing. What he is saying is fine and true but just comes across as trying to be the loudest voice in FIFA to make people think we are ace. African and Asian Federations have already asked him to shut up

His watch explanation has always sounded as dodgy as fuck to me, i think i'd be able to tell that a watch was worth £16,000 and i wouldn't have to search my garage to find it.
