The F1 Thread

It was amazing to hear on the Schumacher documentary that he was adamant he’d been driven into and wouldn’t be told otherwise until he’d seen the footage, it’s like his brain convinced himself.

For all the ifs and buts, I suspect the ball is firmly in Mercedes’ court to win the Dubai race (notwithstanding mechanical or personnel failures). The changes to the track massively benefit them as they provide two DRS zones shortly after one another which means Lewis and his mega engine should be able to sweep past Max like at Brazil. Obviously care will be needed, but it would take an incredible turn of events for Lewis to not win.

Appreciate that Max could just slide into him but there’s also a lot of run off options at the key flash points for those overtaking zones so it’s hard to see how he does it in a manner that (a) damages Hamilton but not him, and (b) (if illegal) avoids a penalty. Even with a time penalty in the race, it’s clear that Hamilton and the Mercedes are far quicker now.

It will be an amazing turn around if they manage to beat Verstappen. They looked dead and buried a couple of months ago.

Let's see how much the engine declines in performance. I actually think they stand more chance if they take another 10 place drop with another new engine, as like you say, thr circuit is set up for them otherwise

Best thing Masi could do is remind both of those cunts about the Schumi expungement in 1997. Do this shit, and every point you have gained this season will cease to exist.

Agreed that Hamilton is favourite. He’s got the better car for this track and is a better driver. But I can just see Max giving him a puncture or something like that by shoving his nose in. But as you say there’s plenty of run offs so Hamilton just needs to do what he’s done recently and just back out and play the long game.

They need to bin off this time penalty bollocks though. Pointless when they make no difference to the standings. The drive through and Stop/Go were obviously too severe in time lost but there has to be some kind of middle ground where they are actually doing something, particularly when your teammate could just back up the pack to prevent you dropping.

Post race penalties would make more sense to just be straight position drops really. 1-5 places depending on severity of the incident or something. Takes time out of the equation, although obviously they were never going to do that last week with the championship how it is.

I feel like red bull are usually better at Abu Dhabi aren’t they? Might just be because Merc have always wrapped the title up before they get there though.

Red Bull "dominated" last year, but they've changed the track since (more high speed) and Lewis was definitely still recovering from covid too

Looks like they have binned off the two shitty little chicanes and that should certainly encourage overtaking.

hard to see it as not being heavily in favor of lewis atm. has the momentum, driving out of his mind over the last few races, track type, etc.

my hopes of a mclaren 3rd place has been dashed so I have no other horse in the game other than wanting to see a good race.

Final race will be free to air on channel 4. I will stick with Sky as the coverage is superior but good that all that wish to can watch the race live.

The sky commentary team have pissed me off with their pro-Max bias. I found the highlights program on C4 much more balanced.
They actually called Max out for his shithousing, unlike "Crofty" and Brundle who tried their best to cover it as a "racing incident" or outright blame Lewis for being too close and not wanting to go passed him

You can basically add anyone with an '-y' or ''ers' to that thread without thought

Awks when you've been referred to as Tredders on here before.

I'm big enough to wear it I reckon Marky, also not a commentator sadly.

Used to be an old woman worked in the warehouse with us when I was a student, she stuck a y on the end of pretty much everyone's names and we thought it made us all sound like toddlers, maybe she was aligned with you and just thought we were all cunts? 🤷🏻‍♂️
