The F1 Thread

Didn't Brundell and/or Coulthard do some calculation regarding speed during practice in the wet / slower speeds / less fuel which lead to, "now it's dry weather, track's getting faster, they're going faster, not enough fuel been put onboard" ?

The issue with Hamilton was not the fuel, but the lack of communication from his team. He asked for information a few laps before they told him he might not have enough fuel.

.

No on that one, he asked about the fuel when he saw Webber closing in and then Massa. He just wanted to know if he could step up his pace to keep them behind him. No idea what message he got because they don't broadcast all the messages.

Didn't Nigel Mansell leave the pits in one race, with only three wheels. I cannot recall the race.

Wasn't that Adelaide?
Was it his last race and a wheel nut came off after overtaking and was bound to win?

Memory's going here boys, so go gently....

I don't think it was Adelaide. In the race I am thinking about, the wheel came off as he left the pits. Hungary rings a bell, but I am not too sure.

he didnt have much luck with wheel nuts. It was a false reading saying that he had a loose one that cost him a win over Senna at Monaco

The Adelaide incident was a tyre blowout when he had the world championship in the bag if he finished.

Really enjoyed Silverstone, it was a real shot in the arm after the snoozefest that was Valencia!

Whitmarsh has said they deliberately underfuelled Hamilton to the extent that they did because they thought starting at 10th he would be in traffic for his first stint.

A misjudgement for sure with it being wet at the start.

A rather big misjudgement. Surely they expected Hamilton would quickly make up ground.

Welcome back Lewis.

Great battle at the front between Lewis, Ferando & Webber. Webber has another shite start which give Lewis the lead.
Webber later takes the lead back but a great move from Lewis and few seconds later he is back in 1st. Pit stops but Webber back in front but the next lot and Hamilton ahead of Webber but behind Alonso, but another fine move and gets the position back and holds onto it to win.

All that and not a mention of Vettel! Well he had a tough day and spent a lot of time behind Massa but took 4th place from him on the last lap in the pit lane! Shocker of a pit by Ferrari really but Red Bull are the dogs at these things.

Button had a poor start and found himself in 10th, struggled to get past Petrov. Once he was freed he was making his way through the field only for McLaren to call him to retire due to a problem.

Great race, Ferrari and McLaren quicker than Red Bull by default.

Lewis was superb today. A joy to watch.

Rather dodgy strategy decisions from Red Bull today. Though lord knows how Webber didn't stay ahead on the undercut for his second stop.

Brilliant pass from Hammy to go round Alonso who was quite frankly caught napping there. Unusual for him.

Good pass, but he's got his tyres warmed up and has a much better line through turn 1 than Alonso, who is compromised by the required line out of the pits.

Gone to Sky.

Very disappointing. BBC will show half the races live and sky are promising extended coverage though...I kind of think the BBC show plenty of coverage if you know where to look (red button, web).

fucking hell. I can't afford to subscribe to sky fucking sports and yet another nail in the coffin of free to air sport.

the spin on the BBC website is ridiculous - this is a cost cutting exercise by BBC

I also don't give a twat about things being in HD. Whoop-di-fucking-doo. My telly isn't HD. I don't care. I want the programme available free to air, not prettied up and costing me.

I wonder how many key moments will be missed as 'we go for a break'.

Very true, it'll be pushed in 3D next.
