Alonso the class of the field today. Very fine drive by him.

Top race from him and the car has benefited from the change, shame for them that they go back to the previous set up after today.

Shame for Hamilton on the fuel as he was having a fine race. Button will be fuming after a balls up with his tyre not being put on properly

Hamilton v Massa on the last lap was brilliant. Shame the director missed that!

What a finish!

Stroll for Alonso's but Webber pushed Vettel until being told to back off and then Massa and Hamilton touch and Lewis holds on for 4th. No doubt the stewards will take a look at it despite it being a clear racing incident and nowt else.

If they punished Schumi then I will be very surprised if Hamilton keeps fourth.

If you get punished for doing nothing more than holding your line then they might as well just ban over taking or just decide the winner based on the Qualifying.

I know. Schumi was already losing his arse end and Kobayashi cut across him. Schumi gets punished

Hamilton overtaken and Massa turns in to cut his nose off. That could be construed as Massa's fault as he wasn't clear but I doubt it. The incident on the next corner was fair enough. Brave racing by both.

I get fucked off with stewards investigating every slight contact. Now this shouldn't be stock car racing but it is like taking tackling out of football they way they investigate EVERYTHING.

The Schumacher penalty was ridiculous as he lost control in the wet and couldn't stop quick enough as Kobayashi came back across.

The Massa one though I think deserves investigation. IMO Massa got in front through Brooklands and Hamilton used him to slow down and make the corner by sliding into him after outbraking himself defending the corner. It's a tough one to judge if it helped him keep his place or not but I agree with Paddy, it was an avoidable collision and should be investigated to show continuity and fairness. Very surprised that Domenicali said it was fine.

Mansell = Bender

Pleased to see that Schumi made reasonable progress back up the field but, to be quite honest, I was so hacked off with that decision I turned the TV off and decided to do some work. As Paddy says, every slight contact gets investigated now and it's becoming a bit of a joke to put it mildly.

It was nice to see Schumi sticking some brave overtaking moves like back in his prime, the one up the inside on the old 1st corner through some late breaking on the wet track was particularly nice.

What was the outcome of the investigation into the Hamilton/Massa incident? I went out straight after the race finished, wouldn't be surprised if Hamilton just threw the car in there when he saw Massa edging ahead, he was beginning to sound mighty pissed off on the radio as he was instructed to wittle down the performance to ensure he got to the end.

Massa cut across Hamilton as far as I could see, but I don't know about the final corner where Hamilton suddenly ended up the other side of Massa. No news yet on the incident investigation.

Hamilton was the overtaking move into the old first corner. Schumi tried the same and backed out of it.

Schumi did a similar move to Hamilton, where he went on to the wet side of the track to overtake. Later in the race Vettel bottled a similar move on Hamilton.

Didn't realise Schumi made it the second time. First time he pulled out and I must have missed the second move.

Schumi drove very well today. Shame his race was completely ballsed up by the early trouble.

I also thought the round the outside move by one the Mclarens (I think it was Button on Massa) was incredible stuff.

Button and Massa was a great bit of racing. Both refused to give up.

Similar one later in the race, Petrov and Kobi I think, but Kobi got his position back coming out of the bend unlike Massa.

Yes - great comeback move by Kobi.

There was a lot of quality racing today. The new Silverstone is the dog's bollocks. I would have two DRS zones though - Wellington and the Hangar straight. I don't see why the two DRS zones have to be on consecutive straights like Brundle said was the case. Anybody know if that is a rule or a recommendation by the FIA?

The Schumi move i was thinking of wasn't on Hamilton, i think it may have been Heidfeld who he seemed to overtake about 15 times, it was about midway through the race when he was maybe around 12th place.

The only replay i saw of the Massa/Hamilton incident didn't really show the action from far back enough for me to judge how far behind Hamilton was when Massa started turning in so i'm unsure yet, from what i saw Massa didn't really take that tight a line through the corner so it didn't look like he completel shut the door on Hamilton. If i had to hazard a guess based on the way Hamilton drives and the way the afternoon was going for him i wouldn't be surprised if he just stuck it into Massa to save himself being passed right at the death.

Ferrari are back, yes they benefited from mistakes by Red Bull, but both their cars were very quick.

And what on earth was Webber thinking of.

Didn't McLaren fuck it up?
Not enough fuel in Lewis's car!!
Then they didn't get the front right wheelnut on Jenson's car, before he departed!
Lots of mis comms there I'm afraid!
I'd say the post mortem on Monday was a bit of a downer...

Majority of cars don't hold enough fuel to finish a race at top speed. Hamilton was pushing the car to the hilt for 80% of the race hence his fuel usage was up.

Vettel can often been seen to "drift" around the track when he has opened up his usual 15 second lead, all he is doing is fuel saving. So no fuck up there.

The Button incident was a fuck up of epic levels though.

The issue with Hamilton was not the fuel, but the lack of communication from his team. He asked for information a few laps before they told him he might not have enough fuel.

Regarding Button, a big mistake, but these things do happen. Didn't Nigel Mansell leave the pits in one race, with only three wheels. I cannot recall the race.
