The F1 Thread

New rules and regs announced today, the new cars will look rather nice I think. Spending cap introduced too.

They’ve all already agreed to the spending cap.

The track in Texas is looking shocking. Bumps everywhere and a huge one on the exit from the pit lane

Conspiracy theory hats on in F1 today

Ferrari have been the quickest car in F1, certainly since the mid season break. Been a few rumblings they may have broke the rules. They have been growing and this weekend, Ferrari snapped and told anyone who wanted to come and check their car to see if it is legal, they are free to do so......same weekend they lose all the pace they had gained since the summer. So just a bad day or the removal of the bits used to get the extra speed

Anyhoo, decent race yesterday with the split strats between Bottas, Max and Lewis. Worth trying the 1 stop for Lewis as he had nowt to lose really. Nearly took the victory but a 2nd place and World Title numero 6.
Been a very different season from Lewis. usually kicks on from the summer and destroys the field in the 2nd half of the season but this time it was the 1st half of the season that gave him the title and some very consistent drives after that

Shame about that yellow flag at the end, would've been interesting to see Max try and have a proper go at him in those last couple of laps.

Max would have nicked 2nd. Lewis had zero defence with what was left of his tyres.

When Bottas tried and was forced off the track you could see Lewis was fighting a losing battle and 2 laps later didn't even defend the move and he certainly wouldn't have tried to block off Max.

End of the road for Hulk, which is a real shame.

Line-ups are looking pretty set for next season now with Latifi all but confirmed at Williams leaving Albon/Gasly for the Red Bull/Toro Rosso seats. I'd be astonished if Albon doesn't keep it.

I'm not convinced there's that much coming through at GP2/GP3 level at the moment, certainly not at the level of Charles, Lando and George so we could see the beginning of a pretty much settled 20 over the next few years.

I can see Ferrari trying to get Schumacher in the Alfa team in the next 2 years. He hasn't done that much this season but they will still promote him.

He has showed some promise this season but was wildly inconsistent. He's in the right team to progress, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him replace Kimi in 2021.

Albon confirmed at Red Bull next year.

Leclerc will have a 10 place grid pen this weekend.

Great finish!

SEB really is a prick. Always has the nerve to whine on the radio about the other driver too.

He got done by his team mate and then deliberately took him out. He's the most unlikeable driver in the field and with damn good reason.

Mad end but all started by a pretty pointless full safety car when Bottas parked up. Where he was didn't need a SC, the VSC would have done the job there but it turned a routine race into a mad one.
Bit daft from Merc to go the opposite of Max on the first SC, no chance were they defending the lead against a car that was quicker than them and on brand new tyres. Did like the gamble on the 2nd SC though.

Looks like Lewis talked himself into a 5 second penalty though afer the race, making the stewards decision for them but Lewis seemed genuinly gutted he had stopped Albon getting his first podium. That kind of incident at times this season was put down as a racing one. So Sainz gets bumped up to 3rd (might be bumped down again as he is under investigation, along with some others for speeding under the yellows).

Yes you're right that was a dumb call. It was well out of the firing line.

Latifi confirmed which is very uninspiring and that's the grid finalised.

Mick is up against a very capable team mate in F2 next year, so he'll have a battle on his hands for 2021.

They'll be glad to see the back of this season. Though you could day that for many a year now.

I see the Hamilton to Ferrari stuff is stepping up a gear for 2021. His deal at Merc is up next year (as are a lot of drivers deals next year). I reckon he might do it. He said a few years back he would like to drive the Ferrari before he finished.
