The F1 Thread

Seems to me this race has been interesting because Massa and Vettel started well down the grid, maybe that's the formula , every race two of the top guys must start out of the top ten.

It's been the dullest Canada GP in a long while. Other than a couple of midfield scraps it's been very uneventful.

Nico doesn't have the speed to tackle Lewis. If Lewis had been behind you can guarantee there would have been some racing

Not sure about Lewis' head full of pubes haircut.

Not sure they are that predictable Frank

EDIT - looks like we are getting some more fantastic Rosberg v Hamilton racing in prospect. We never got that with Irvine v Schumacher or Vettel v a variety of team mates so make the most of it.

I beg to differ Sir. Some half decent battles down the field, but yet another predictable outcome. F1 needs to take a long hard look at itself. Changes are needed to make it more competitive.

I agree with Frank (!)

There too much attention paid to persevering tyres and fuel, rather than out right racing.

You'll have to ask him.

He has different type of hair to you, it acts in a different way after spending hours under a helmet. If that means it looks like your pubes so be it, I doubt there is much he or you can do about it.

Hmmmm - seven years of Schumacher domination. Four years of Vettel domination. And neither of those two allowed the number two driver in the same equipment to fight them, and NOW when Merc allow their two drivers to fight each other is when you want changes to make it more competitive?

Really?

The whole Formula is a joke. It's so boring it's unreal.

GP2/3 is so much better to watch it's hilarious. And those GP2 cars are just about as quick as these modern day F1 cars.

The tyre and fuel saving is criminal. Alonso summed it up perfectly this week. The drivers biggest challenge is knowing which button does what on the steering wheel. They're nowhere near the limit anymore which goes against everything F1 should be.

They really haven't thought some of the rules through properly, it reminds me of FFP in football where the principle is sound and the ethos behind changing the rules is laudable, but the execution is crap. Just as the current state of FFP now ensures that no-one can catch up with any of the super rich clubs even if the richest man in the world took them over, the ban on mid-season testing and the restrictions on car/engine development mean that no-one has any hope of getting near Mercedes.

I understand that some of the lower end teams can't afford to plough money into the car all the way through a year, but I'm afraid that's just tough, F1 doesn't mind disadvantaging them in other ways or divvying up the revenues in favour of the top teams - in fact they probably *could* afford to do more development if the distribution model were better and/or faceless shareholders weren't taking vast sums out of the sport for doing literally nothing. I'd rather have a situation where Ferrari can have a proper go at catching Mercedes rather than having them resign themselves to planning for 2016 after the first three races of this season.

I have been saying for some time that changes need to be made. And the biggest change should be that the drivers be in complete control of their cars. As Nando said, they are all driven by computers and lots of buttons in front of the drivers.

Renault are threatening to leave F1 unless in season engine development is allowed.

Waaaah!! We're not winning any more.

You've got to give Mercedes some kudos for having the foresight to plan so far ahead and get the new power system all sorted out before it was really needed but with the lack of development time now afforded to their rivals it really does kill the competition to a large degree, you'd think the FIA would want to sort it out so things can be levelled out a bit more and make the Championship more open. Obviously Mercedes will be pissed off but they'll get the same opportunity to develop their product further and still have a massive headstart on everyone else in that respect.

Like Dan said, it does seem pretty similar to the FFP stuff in football, nice idea but it's effectively just locking down the current pecking order.

He'll get a pitstop penalty, same as Button and Verstappen in Canada.

These engine penalties are going to become more and more ludicrous the further we get into the season. By the final few races the qualifying will become a farce as everyone will have to juggle around afterwards.
