The Definitive TWF UK & Ireland XI (1970 - present) - ST VOTING OPEN

Kenny Sansom was never a right back!

I'll allow Irwin (just, even though he hardly ever played there for United after about 1991)

Gary Neville
Rob Jones
Lee Dixon

Gary Neville
Lee Dixon
Steve Nicol

Viv Anderson was one of the first right backs I remember and he was class but I didn't see enough of him.

Was great for about 3 years but dropped off the edge of a cliff when he hit 29 (from memory) and then got stuck behind Neville after that.

This will be a landslide. Comfortably Gary Neville wins.

Gary Neville
Lee Dixon
Dennis Irwin

Phil Neal
Gary Neville
Dennis Irwin

Imagine the size of the trophy cabinet for those three alone ?? :)

Cheers, can just about remember a shot looping of his back and over the English keeper at the time

Parker always played centre half for QPR. England and later United put him at RWB/RB and he did ok for a while but in the long run it buggered his career.

Different game then of course. If you were a centre half with a bit of pace then you were made. Let the ball drop over your shoulder when someone tries to play it through or over the top, use your start on the striker, knock it back to the keeper. 50 times a game. Backpass law goes and whoops, you need to play a bit of football now. Wrecked Des Walker.

Irwin has to be a contender for left back, rather than right back surely.

I didn't see much football before the backpass rule was introduced, or at least understand it. Must have been boring as hell with keepers picking it up all the time

Are you two both saying ex-Everton and Rangers Gary Stevens?

Yes, rather than everyone's Saturday Wide Awake Club favourite

Can't believe the lack of love for Phil Neal although I did forget him at first ;)
