The Darts Thread

Kenny is shit at doubles, UNTIL his opponent hits a beautiful set-up shot with two trebles to leave double eight. In that situation, Kenny can hit anything...

For some reason, when I read this post 'Let the heavy darting commence!' sprang to mind, quickly followed by a mental image of you snoring in the corner.

Absolutely battered the doubles in practice today. If I cock it up in a match again I'll know it's bottle and not ability.

My mate is dragging me out to play tomorrow in his Thursday night league as they're short a few players. The league if full of county and superleague players so I'll need 3 or 4 pints to have any change of even pinching a leg.

I do find a couple of jars helps but it's a fine line between that and not being able to throw straight!

Nailed a 98 and a 71 finish earlier which is well tidy for me.

I'm normally alright if I've not had a drink but soon as my brain realises that I'm probably going to win or if my opponent is rubbish and I know if I play half decent I should win. You can guarentee at that point my arm will start to weigh 3 tonnes and I'll struggle to hit the board let alone a double. A couple of beers tends to shut the brain up and allows me to relax.

Not sure who were up against tomorrow but they're bound to be better than me.

I really think it is a mental issue with my finishing because today, no pressure on, I hit the double first time in four of the legs I played. One of them in 19 darts which is well decent. Not sure how I solve that to be honest!

The more you think about it the more likely you are to miss it I think. If I'm scoring ok chances are I'll cock up the double but if I'm playing like a tit and hitting nothing and I get a chance I normally end up hitting it.

Scoring can come quite naturally if your aiming at the same spot all the time and get into a rythym, switching to the side of the board then becomes a problem and subsequently knocks you out of that rythym. It always bugs me how in 1 leg I'll break first dart 301 and then next take 6-10 to hit exactly the same double.

To quote Tony Green "its swings and roundabouts"

I have favourite doubles (8/16/12/18) which I really need to get out of because I'm not good enough to guarantee I'll end up there or indeed hit them. What do you generally average Jack?

I love double 5 and Madhouse. The amount of times I've successful gone out on madhouse is unreal to the easier doubles. The other night was the worst I've chucked but I'm half blaming that on my legs, Im finding myself getting worse and my stance changes throughout legs..

You had one golden leg versus me Jase. Absolutely mullered me and I was playing ok too. You're the best player out of our group by a distance.

14's is my breaking double in 301 (I cannot remember for the life of me the last time I finshed on it though) I avoid leaving it as a finish if I can as sevens is horrible if you miss it. I probably averaged around 20 in superleague this season over 3-5 legs (16 games) I won 5 if I remember correctly 24+ was my best average but i think I got hammered in that game.

20 is probably good enough in most week night leagues which are generally 301 double start. Superleague and Thursdays you're gonna probably to need to average around 25 if you want to win consistantly.

If I'm at my best I'll give most league players a game and I always tend to win more than i lose during the week. I never practice at home which is my problem, before i play tomorrow it will be over 10 days since I picked up my darts.

Everybodys games have gone up tenfold. You're getting used to you're new darts and scoring and grouping brilliantly now. Kenny is a darkhorse has proven Monday, he can group very well as his doubling is nice. I still fear Paddy, he is an electric player and on his day unstoppable. I still need to use the 'math' but its slowly getting there with that...

The last bit is the issue for us lads, we can't always all make it. You're more than welcome to join us if you want some cheap victories.

Im always happy to be taught a lesson. It makes for me playing better in the future.. Jack you're welcome definately.

Dan. What I wouldnt mind is if we could find a pub that are looking for a team and we can all play in there. We're all getting better summat to think about for me as well.

Except this week when Gayquirfleeg is pissing off to Wales.

The Bull in Codsall?

I''ll probably be up for it at some point. I used to play 3 or 4 nights a week a few years back but after learning to drive I started to drive to matches on Wednesdays and Fridays and found myself arriving for games later and later and not really enjoying it anymore.

Going out and having a drink and laugh was a serious part of the enjoyment so I ended up jacking those nights in. believe it or not there is a lot of politics that goes on in some teams which takes the enjoyment right out of it my mate no longer plays on Tuesdays after falling out with our captain so I have to drive to those matches now too as he used to give me a lift.

I'm only playing Tuesdays at the moment and will probably give that up at the end of the season. Thursday was pool night but that season has finished, hence why I'm playing tomorrow.
