The Cricket Thread

If you look at the crowds it’s mainly tourists very few local fans in the ground, if it’s that empty why not bring some local school children to matches?
On a Friday though, at 10.30 in the morning...

We're not going well here incidentally with Buttler gone. Long tail with Archer or Wood at 8.

Think we’ve only timed one shot on the whole innings and that was the Salt hook in the first over. Maybe the reverse sweep too

Buttler and Bairstow both guilty of using balls up to play themselves in and getting out

England back in it.... good three overs this.... 25 needed from 18.

In the grand scheme of things - going to be a very narrow loss and so any win vs USA almost certainly takes us through on NRR.

But we should have chased this down, we lost the plot a bit.

45 off 50 between Buttler, Bairstow and Mo has killed us there

Plus whoever plays out of Curran or Jordan being a complete drain with the ball, both awful these days

I'd like this to be it for all 4 of them. Curran depends on form

Bairstow - will all be on that first Test squad next month. I wouldn't like to call what we'll do. Obviously he shouldn't play and that should be it for him, too old for the next T20 and ODI World Cups, can't keep any more and fuck keeping him for the Champions Trophy because who cares. But we frequently have picked him when he shouldn't be there by rights

Mo - yep, think he's done after this, made the very best of his talent but he's 37 now and hasn't been able to bat at this level properly for ages

Jos - who knows, he's 34 in September. I don't think he's a natural captain (and doesn't have a good coach to back him up right now)

Curran - used to inexplicably take wickets with utter dross, eventually that knack runs out and you are just left with medium paced dross and a bit of slogging

Jordan - was past it at least 2 years ago and a stupid pick made only to counter what would have been an equally stupid pick in Jamie Overton had he not got injured, again

I don't want him to go because he's still performing but Rash is 36 now, got to keep an eye on how long he's got left too.

The Livingstone wicket should have been a 6. SA got away with some dreadful bowling. That goes and we coast home.

Realistically we shouldn’t have got anywhere near but SA forgot where the pitch was for a while and almost gifted it. It was lost with the QDK innings at the top.

Afghanistan played extremely well and fully deserved their win. Once Maxwell was out, that was basically game over. Good opening partnership between Gurbaz and Zadran and then followed up with a superb bowling performance all round.
