The Cricket Thread

It’s on the ECB for pushing the competition that shall not be named.
I’m certain with better prep in this format and conditions that Wood and Woakes wouldn’t look so village as they’ve done.

Nobody other than the smaller nations plays much 50 per cricket any more, it's not just England. As I said previously I think the format is on it's way out, it's being marginalised around the world with England obviously been at the forefront of doing that

No I agree eventually you’ll have T20 World Cup every 2 years and in between those the test championship will be decided.
Having said that England and Australia are virtually piggy backing test cricket themselves currently.

Wood is undercooked as he wasn't fit, the number of warm up games wouldn't have made a difference to that. Woakes is an experienced 1 Day bowler, who'll have had plenty of net practice, think providing lack of games as an excuse for him is a reach.

The bottom line is the balance of the side and the attack isn't good enough. More games for Curran, Woakes and Willey wouldn't have made any difference to them being anything other than underpaced pie chuckers in this format in these conditions, made Topley or Wood less of an injury risk or meant Stokes could bowl.

Atkinson is the one who has an excuse and he's going to be joined by many more in the future who have very little experience of the format. That's our choice.

I really thought 50 over cricket had been saved a few years ago when teams started being more aggressive early on (NZ the instigators?) It's a shame, as said earlier it's just going to be a diet over 20/20 and tests.

Keep getting these wickets and this SA scorecard will grind to a holt

Topley has bowled excellently, as has Rashid. Atkinson looks decent. The rest have been pies. Still in it though.

Pitch looks as docile as Geoffrey Howe and the outfield as fast as Monza. Fuck knows what par is on here.

Also the heat is brutal there. It’s been around 30 degrees here last couple of days and will be warmer tomorrow but Mumbai is hotter today and miles more humid. Cramp and exhaustion are real factors.

The last 2 balls, we've done this weird thing called bowling to your field

Well the ECB can start looking at flights home on the 12/11 now absolute horror show.

It’s just over par I reckon! Pitch is a road. Now we will get skittled for about 90

Pitch is a road, no pitch anywhere in the world is a 400 one though, not even Trent Bridge when it has it's U13 boundaries. Bowling, Rashid aside has been appalling

Bowlers 100% responsible for this shit show bar Rashid, they were mainly at fault v Afghanistan letting them put on over 100 before getting a wicket.
26 from the penultimate over is shameful

We’ve got a tail longer than a London Rat, Willey is in at 7 so it’s almost impossible to chase this down, the selection of the team today is bonkers
