The Cricket Thread

Shame as Brook was starting to motor. Big partnership this now.

Just write that one off. Will probably never happen again for the rest of his career.

Whatever the ‘brand of cricket’ it ain’t great to be consistently losing wickets once they’re away to good starts on a batting track. Bit frustrating so far.

Correct. To my mind 400-450 is a par score on this wicket first up.

Bizarre review. You could hear it make contact even before Ultra Edge...

It’s fine while we’re winning but Stokes is a pretty big problem in this team. Unless he can keep his knee together and pick up a couple of wickets

Hopefully Root and Bairstow can get a decent rhythm going here. Would be nice to end the play on circa 300 and still at bat. As unlikely as that seems right now...

Been listening most the day anything close to 300 in an opening of the ashes is at the least competitive.
We’re not in a terrible position regardless of what happens the rest of the innings

We're going to score way more than 110 if we bat that long :D That's like 2 and a bit an over. We wouldn't have done that 10 years ago.

To be fair, two of the five wickets were a jaffa and a freak out respectively. Three were chuck aways which is annoying, but the first Test was always going to be an interesting one: I think the press have really underplayed how good this Australian team is.

It's the best team they've brought here since 2005 for sure

Yep: two of the best pace bowlers in the world in Cummins and Hazelwood, Green is a good all-rounder, Lyon is a fantastic spin bowler - and that's before you get to Labuschagne, Smith...

Same stuff as last week: 52 overs in two sessions when Lyon has bowled 16 of them. Absolutely shit, do something about it.

(I know England are as bad for it)

All im bothered about is we get four days out of it. I'm going on Monday 😀 and it's costing an arm and a leg with flights, trains, hotel and tickets.
