The CHRISTMAS Thread

Is that you Sue?

It's not, but I can see how you thought it was me :)

Like Langers, we are hosting this year, 9 of us. We had a trial run last weekend ( lamb though not turkey) and it went perfectly. I insist everyone wears a Christmas outfit this year, even me 88 year old mother who will be dressed as ' Number 1 Elf ' ( although when trying it on she did say ' well I look a right bloody Prat ')

Also like Langers I'm very much looking forward to this year's festivities :)

Just injected the Christmas cake again with brandy. The aromas from it are fantastic.

Tried the pickled onions and shallots yesterday, added a little sugar to the vinegar this year, lovely. Gala Pie and other stuff ordered from the butchers in Gornal.

Christmas crackers got and table wear, snowflakes this year.

I could go on.....and on....and on, but I will spare you :)

I'm hoping for Xmas dinner on a tray in front of the telly this year, but it won't happen.

Get yourself in an old people's home, they should do that for you there :)

Started to put my beer lineup for Christmas Day together.

Bought a bottle of this Wicked Weed Genesis Blonde to go with the main course:

This beer starts life as a saison, and is then moved to wine barrels for aging. Papaya and guava are added and it is aged for six months. As is common with Wicked Weed beers there is a little funky farmyard on the nose, but lots of soft tropical notes too. Not dissimilar to a white wine, an oaked chardonnay perhaps. The tartness is not too heavy, and those lovely tropical notes really shine through.

However, I'm really tempted to search out a bottle of Burning Sky - This Land instead as it sounds absolutely perfect and I'm slightly concerned about the tropical fruit notes of the Wicked Weed not matching the food:

A mixed fermentation beer aged on 150 grams per litre of pressed grape skins in a steel tank and a mix of oak barrels. The result is a subtle and very refreshing nod to both the grape and the grain. This Land is our land and this land was made for you and me.

Fightstar drummer in the Argos Xmas advert..... so random

Frankly I'm stunned that the Pret Christmas Dinner sandwich didn't win as it's a work of art. I had the Sainsbury's ham hock brioche dealy very recently and can confirm it's a winner.

The Sainsbury’s does look very good.

The Costco one is a winner. It's cut into about 8 slices, on it is turkey, stuffing, lettuce, brie, bacon and cranberry sauce. I can confirm it's a winner.

So happens I've got to go to Costco next week at some point and renew my membership / buy too much stuff I won't use.

Putting trees up with two 6 month old cats.....nightmare, little twats.
