The Advice Thread

Haven't seen it mentioned in general on here but has anyone tasted Innis & Gunn?
Slightly pricey but a superb red ale now comes in Caribbean rum cask version.
A seriously grown up beer.

I had an IPA brewed by them a few years back. Fucking dreadful stuff.

Don't let that put you off. I have a tiny little off licence near me so they have very limited space and every fucking inch is taken up with IPA bottles.
This is a really decent pint.

The used car market at the moment is absolutely bananas. My Dad has just sold his A CLass AMG (mid-life crisis) for just shy of £2k less than he paid for it brand new 27 months ago.

The Ibiza that I ordered this time 3 years ago is now worth only 1k less than I paid for it.

I've got an A35 that I'm thinking of selling for this very reason - did he sell privately or to a dealer?

It’s not just cars, van prices are off the scale too. Mine has been due for updating for a while and I’ve been watching things closely.

Prices had been rising for a while but the Covid-induced explosion in home delivery services has sent things crazy. Rental firms have been unable to source new stock and anything nearly new is astronomical money.

I don’t know if this has slipped under the radar with you guys, but the London ultra low emission zone (Ulez) expands it’s area in October to everywhere inside the north and south circular. The daily charge for my van is going to be £12.50 + another £15 for the congestion charge if I creep into that zone too, so effectively £27.50 per day!

It’s a similar thing with cars, but this October Ulez boundary expansion is really twisting the knife in a sector already struggling to cope with all sorts of supply issues and driving demand to a level way outstripping supply.

There’s always a solution if you can buy your way out of the problem of course, but for a whole lot of people things are about to get a whole lot tougher.

One hell of a car - he's gutted to be getting rid, but its just sat on the drive day in day out with him working from home.

He used Motorway - really simple and he's been offered a further 1k over the expected price they provided. I was selling the Ibiza via them last year until COVID decimated the values on the day I was completing the same, but I was really impressed with their customer service.

Thinking off chopping mine in and doing the same. Will have a look at Motorway.

That's why I'm getting rid of mine - work from home at least 3 days a week so really I just need a run around as my new jobs means I'm not travelling about anyway.

A guy from a local Toyota dealership said that they are selling used cars at up to $10k above recommended and still cannot keep up with the demand. Also they are getting no new cars in the next month.

Went down to one car a few months back. Tried webuyanycar and Motorway. Motorway gave us £1000 more.

Yeah did both and 2.5k more from motorway - quite a lot more than my outstanding finance on the car.

Arnold Clark are generally decent too.

My other half works for RAC and advises staying away from Arnold Clark (or Arnold Shark as he calls them), Evans Halshaw etc. Best thing to do with a car is buy approved used direct from the dealer - it's more cash but nine times out of ten they won't sell you a kipper.
