The Advice Thread

Go to the interviews as normal.

I'd only mention it if you end up conflicted after both interviews then the prospective employers know what's going on if you end up leaving them hanging for a while.

At the interview for my current job, the panel said they were going to let everyone know on the friday. The interview took place on a wednesday afternoon. They were interviewing weds & thurs. I had an interview that friday, one of those horrible all day things. I was out of work, so had applied for loads of stuff. The head of the panel stated this and asked if t was ok. I hesitated for the tiniest moment, and they picked up on it, the head of the panel saying "obviously it is..."

I explained the interview friday, and that I wouldn't be contactable. I left feeling I may have fucked up.

The head of the panel called me at 4 on the thursday to offer me the job. Apparently they knew in the interview they wanted me for the role.

I do feel sorry for the poor souls who went through the thursday interviews for little purpose. I now work with most of them...

You've little to lose by telling them, and it only becomes a bigger thing the longer you leave it. Plus, if they really want you, it's a signal to them.

Very best of luck to you, whatever you decide mate!

Thanks both, appreciate the response. I can certainly see both sides and if I am honest the second option are really going to have to sharpen their act and get me through and offered on quickly if they are to convince me to go with them (assuming no.1 goes well) so them knowing might not be the worst idea.

It could play out either way, if they really want you then they might be more inclined to be urgent/generous with their offer, or if they have another closely matched candidate they might lean towards them if they think you're as likely to go elsewhere.

When I moved to my current job I had two interviews in the same week, the other being with another company to the one I now work for. I didn't mention the other interview to either party at the time, nor to the different recruitment guys that had set them up, but after I'd been to both I knew which I preferred so waited for an offer from them before using that as a reason to decline the first one. I never told my current employer specifically about the other offer, though it came up in conversation at some point, I wasn't interested in playing them off against one another as there was only one that I wanted to pursue and so didn't want to jeopardise it.

Prospective new employer wants to meet for 'coffee and a chat' do I dress as I would for a formal interview or go more casual?

I wouldn't hire him just on that basis.

I was thinking snazzy shirt/jumper combo but at least I'm on the right page with a slightly more relaxed approach.

Shirt/jumper/trousers/chino/shoes

A combination of those is fine [emoji106]

I was thinking crop top and elephant head thong ?? bit too 'on the nose' ??

Yeah, suit no tie, though a tie wouldn't hurt. Always good to show you care enough to have made the effort.

Anyone on here do much photo editing?

We're thinking about changing the colour of the windows on our house but the other half is getting in a right tizz because she can't 'picture it' so thought I'd take some pictures of the house and have a go at editing them for some options, used to have a free bit of software (GIMP I think?) that I managed to figure out once upon a time but just re-downloaded it and have no clue what I'm doing.

I used GIMP a few times but it's so back-to-front with regard to Photoshop it sent me a bit loopy. Can you not get a trial version of the latter?

I'll have a look, I just went back to GIMP because I'd used it before and remembered it being readily available. Sort of figured it out a bit now but it's not ideal really struggling to adjust the existing colours to get a proper white.
