The Advice Thread

Is it not mitigated because your son can claim the VAT back on his purchases but the other guy can't?

Just a thought, shouldn't he be charging your son V.A.T. at 20%?

So, of a £100 job, your son will make £51.50 where his mate will make £55.75

isn't the 8.5% on gross turnover including VAT, so essentially he'll be paying £10.2 VAT on a net £100 (ie 8.5% of £120). All in this way they're paying 15.3% VAT on the £100 (£10.2 and £5.1).
in which case the son is at £49.8 net and his mate as £54.9

That's what I worked out would be the issue - re the disparity of net to each you can slightly weight the split so that they both end up with almost the same net after paying the VAT (don't need to get too anal with decimal points & pennies).

As far as I can see the best you can do is minimise the damage & as said it is only going to be a temporary issue. Think that if they can agree then in would make sense for Andy to invoice my son monthly for half the work done (weighted to allow for the above) net of his share of the workshop expenses as this will reduce the overcalculation

call me anal, but whilst they're doing it this way, for every £100 net fees i think his mate would have to bill him £47.78 rather than £50.

If netting off the costs, presumably should deduct it after VAT is fully charged on the services, not before. might need to check none of the costs 'recharged' are also vatable supplies by your son's business, which would be a pain.

Best place for a bit of brekkie in Wolves city centre?

Excellent. Just on the train out of New St :icon_lol:

Vape juice.... Bit random but anyone know anywhere local (I'm a Snetter) that sells Redbull flavour? My bottle has ran out and no idea where I got it/struggling online.

Welcome to 2018...

Have emailed a few shops but no luck. Online I can only really find 6mg and not exactly reputable websites. If anyone sees any remember meh.

Can I ask the good folk of TWF to point me in the direction of a good pair of bluetooth headphones at a affordable price. Thank you kind folk of TWF.

Actually this isnt advice is it, more of a request. Can I start a request thread :)

Start what you want (Mods will delete what they want though...)

Can you answer my question before any course of action. A bit like that Tom Cruise film where you kill people before it actually happens.

Just start your new thread you goon

Can anyone please, please tell me how to completely remove, as in permanently remove from device books from off me Kindle Fire. Cos I'll be buggered if I know. Done the hold finger down and press remove from device and stuff, and yet they are still there when I next look.

Think you have to go to your Amazon account and delete.

As there are in your account your Kindle will pop them back on whenever it syncs

Advice required from the good people of the forum.

I have a second round job interview next week (Tuesday) at a bigger & better employer than my current one. This has been set for a couple of weeks after I saw them for the first time about a month ago.

I was approached last week on LinkedIn (about the only thing it is good for) about another role and a big organisation which sounds just as appealing, I've spoken to the HR person who approached me and the hiring manager wants to see me next week as well.

Now I can't decide whether I should tell the HR manager of the second firm of the existing interview which has been set up for a while? I personally feel like being open & honest is the best approach but really not sure how to phrase things, any advice?
