The 12 Days of Christmas Tat: A Festive Blog Series

If it were the worst 12 players I've ever seen then he wouldn't be in there...

It's the (mis)use of funds that gets him included. If that's the money you have to spend on a midfielder (and let's say it's about £3-4m in today's market) then that should not be the best you can possibly do.

There are others who weren't awful, but were a true waste of the money spent - should probably wait to see who fills the other spaces before commenbting further

Didn't he also win a player of the year award? A few of our players downed tools in that Taylor sacking season, he was one and it's the only time I questioned Bully, post Taylor trying to sell him that summer.

Atkins was never worth a £1million but that wasn't his fault. I think mis-use of funds is the best way of describing him.

What annoyed me the most was the sale of David Kelly. One of my favourite players

Finding these blogs really interesting DW, excellent stuff

Never warmed to Kelly. Didnt want to know when we first went for him , only interested when Newcastle wanted to get rid. Another incident the WBA goal, we know he's an Albion fan and he did is best to scuff that sitter into the net, he certainly didnt want a goal against his beloved on his record.

Oh and I've never seen a player on his arse more then David Kelly...

Correct me If Im wrong we should have gone up the season before Atkins signed. We signed Kelly, Daley, Froggatt, Keen, Thomas, Emblen and flunked miserably again. We honestly do not spend money well. Take the worst season in my living memory and many others 01/02, how the fucking hell did we not go up that year. 2-0 up Forest, 2-0 up at Birmingham.... I still have nightmares.

So in a nutshell since Jack Hayward, Steve Morgan and now Fosun we're never going to do anything but we're Wolves and destined for fuck all.

We were way too rickety at the back once Shirtliff got injured. Obviously we signed De Wolf to try and fix that but he broke as well. In four of our last nine games we conceded three, that's no good for a promotion team. Only 10 points from those nine games as well (W1 D7 L1).

I always felt the one automatic spot was gone after Boro at home, thanks to Paul Jones for that one.

We should have signed lee howey just to stop him breaking our players

I was at Roker Park that afternoon, what a great goal and celebration..

Kevin Keen and Geoff Thomas were signed by Graham Turner the season before. Having said that, pretty much all of those named spent huge amounts of the season on the treatment table.

Very good and at least more reasoned than the usual lambasting the bloke !

Today's blog says more about Hoddle than Frankowski being the villain of the piece, which he was

Added all the links into the OP in case any masochists want to read them all in one sitting...

poor old franko had to be in there. hoddle turned him into the poster boy of that shit season. jigsaw piece hype and money spent that we could ill afford with no end product, other than the odd bemused memory of a carl cort cross sailing aimlessly over his tiny frame. had to feel sorry for him in the end.

wasn't so sure about atkins, not that he was any great shakes, but you make the case well enough.

brilliant series so far, so well written, and a Christmas treat in a gallows humour sort of way.

Can't wait for some of the latter episodes - Corica, Ferguson, Eastwood, the second coming of Leon Clarke...
