Techy Stuff Help!

Giffgaff (which I have been using for some time) is worth looking at - no contract & various packages depending what you want. Basically I pay for the month & cancel renewal whenever I want at no cost.
I've been on giffgaff for a few years too, never had any issue with them and they even have the honesty to recommend a package each month based on your usage.

Who's using data anyway at the moment, no-one is going anywhere. Even in normal non-lockdown life it's so rare I'm using it, everywhere has WiFi. And if I'm with people I'm hardly hammering away at my phone constantly.

3GB is fine. Even WhatsApp calls don't use very much.

210gb of mobile data in a month is my max [emoji51]

Cheers guys. So, use data from the work SIM and get a cheap SIM that covers calls for personal use.

Got it

I’m using literally mine at minute and fortunately I can save it in a piggy bank. But I go for 10gb. Used to be 5gb and 90% if he under that. But if you stream a CL game or something when you’re walking the dog then it gets rinsed

Might be worth checking your company policy on it, I've recently had a company mobile forced on me and they're very strict with it's usage. Can't install anything without permission and the company will seek to recoup money from individuals who abuse their paltry data allowance.

Got to be honest, wandering around streaming videos has never occurred to me. If I'm out walking then I'd quite like to watch where I'm going. If I want to watch something then I'll stay here and postpone the walk.

It's actually quite hard to use a huge amount of data unless you go all Brewster's Millions.

I've have to get cleared what apps I can add, which I did, so it came 'pre-installed' with Endomondo and a few other bits. I've also asked if I can install the Nectar app, etc. I did get a doc with the handset to sign and an idiots guide on usage, which is the bit I'll read. I can add numbers to an approved list of personal calls I make quite a bit.

Oh well, everyday's a school day.

I just don't get people that have their face in a phone and not watch where they're going. On walks, I'm too busy watching out for dog shit.

Minor question - have finally got round to being able to to do video calls via the phone, but not that impressive so would prefer to do this through my desktop PC.

It's not that new & still on Windows 7 which I know is not supported now (but works fine) so doesn't have a camera/microphone. There are hundreds out there to buy with a vast variance in cost - any tips on a good value reliable one?

Have you already got a mic and speakers? Most webcams will have a mic, but unlikely to have speakers. Something like this will be fine:

Dericam High Definition Webcam, HD Computer Camera, 2 megapixel 1080P, Desktop and Laptop USB Camera, Plug and Play, Video Calling, Live Streaming, Built-in Mic, Flexible Rotatable Clip https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07FNFFKNR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_v2aZEbK7V3EYQ

Windows 7 might be an issue, assume you are going to use Skype?

Got a decent set of separate speakers, but it will need a mic in it as well as the camera - that seems a reasonable price
Was intending to Skype & may have to upgrade from windows 7 at some point.

Microsoft never properly turned off free upgrades to W10 even though they said they would:

Ultimately it suits them if fewer people are using unsupported software, they make money off other stuff.

Yeah it works fine provided you've got a pre-existing kosher copy of a previous Windows version installed. I upgraded mine late last year and meant to do the girls' PC and forgot. I did it a couple of months ago and everything is fine, I thought I may have to pay for theirs seeing as I'd gone past the cut off point for Windows 7 support but it still worked. Free Windows 10, what's not to like.

So, I've got Spotify working on the new phone but unless I stick it on 'shuffle' it only plays the first 9 or 10 seconds of each song, and I can only skip a song 6 times an hour. Would these problems be cured by putting my hand in my pocket for Premium?

It should play the whole song, rather than 9 or 10 seconds. But yes, getting premium will give you unlimited skips, select any song rather than shuffle and no adds. You can get 3 months for a tenner I think

I thought you were adding stuff to the Lockdown Playlist before (well I know you were and I shan't comment further)?

Log into the same account as whatever that was.

I was doing that via the laptop and it still works fine on there. I've linked the two devices so the same playlists appear, etc, but if I go to manually pick a song, it plays around 10 seconds and stops, sort of like a preview.

I'll see if the deal Dave mentions is going on.

Oh, and I put some quality tunes on the lockdown playlist!

My wife and I are finally going to be getting a new TV after having our old 32inch for the last 10 years.

Looking to spend £300 - £400 but don't really know anything about TVs these days. What should we be looking for?

Samsung Smart if you can get one.
