Is there anything out of the ordinary showing in there? If so, uncheck it.

No Dan, but thanks for that. Now I know where to find these extensions.
But now I've found it there's nothing I don't want or didn't expect.

It's a nasty little program that's installed itself on your machine without your permission. I think they used to be called Trojans but I have no idea what they're called these days. Try this below as it is a manual guide to removal. I advise you not to install any programs which may be somewhat dodgy, I've done it before and it took me a while to get it off.

Thanks Johnny, I'll try that.
I got the YouTube downloader from The Drummer and it's fine on his pc, although I got a slightly older update.
I selected from the list and I think that's where it got into me.

I got some porn website from The Drummer and it's fine on his pc, although I got a slightly seedier site.
I selected whips and chains from the list and I think that's where it got into me.

Makes sense.

Had the same happen to me recently with Conduit. Annoying that it isn't picked up by any virus checkers.

.....System Restore?

Try antimalwarebtyes....

It's just Malware Bytes.

I would recommend getting this any way whether you've fixed it or not.

Just do a restore to a point before the download, Roy.

Bloody CD drive on my laptop is fucked - apparently I need to reinstall the drivers. Anyone got any idea where I can find the bloody things? Haven't got a clue.

Should be on the CD you got with the laptop, or Google the type of drive you have and find the drivers that way.

Doesn't seem to work - checked device manager and it says:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Check if your DVD device is showing in device manager,if so check device status, right click on device, select properties, select the general tab.
If this error is showing or something similar with a "code 19"
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
Try deleting the UpperFilters\LowerFilters registry entries.
Start Registry Editor Click Start, type regedit in the quick search, and then click the regedit icon in the search results. Registry Editor starts.
1. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
2. Expand SYSTEM
3. Expand ControlSet001
4. Expand Control
5. Expand Class
6. Search for the key {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and left click on it, bringing the values up on the right
In the right hand pane (topic area), you may have Upperfilters, Lowerfilters or both, click UpperFilters if you have it, and delete it, if you have LowerFilters as well, delete this also. If you only have one of the two, just delete that one.
Close Registry Editor and restart windows.

You really need to upgrade Roy, MS support ends for XP in April.

Thanks Gav I didn't know that... Bollocks!

Then it might hurry me forward a little bit….

If anyone wants to advise me differently, I’m ready and willing to listen….

I’m tossing around this idea that if I abandon my trusty laptop which may need replacing soon anyway (7 years old), my printer is nearly fucked, so…
I’m thinking of getting a decent tablet linked to a wireless keypad (which I have), linked to my (as yet not bought) new printer, linked to my smartphone (which I have and will be upgraded free to a Galaxy 4 or something), probably linked to my (not wireless) remote hard disc.

Is this a good way to go?
Would a decent tablet have sufficient memory to access the internet fast?
Do all tablets come with a base or a holder so it looks like a screen?

Any ideas, seeing as the printer and Laptop might be coming to an end soon?

Or maybe the better question might be…
I want a tablet + Printer + remote hard drive + keyboard all wireless…
And finally, which operating system is best if I go for Windows... which workds best and has been thoroughly debugged, or will I have no choice?

Pros & cons anyone?

Personally I wouldn't touch a tablet, or any touch screen device. I like my desktops. If that's what you want though that's completely up to you of course. I doubt you'll find anything other than Windows 8/8.1 on the new portable devices so you won't have much choice in the matter there. Again, I'd rather rub my bellend in glass than have 8/8.1 on my PC, 7 is still the best OS by a country mile, but when you've got no choice I suppose 8 will have to do.
