Swallow our pride and sack Edwards

Has a manager ever come out publicly and said "look, I just don't have enough good players" during a season?
I like David Moyes but he did that at Sunderland. After about 2 or 3 games came out with "well look, obviously we're going to be down there all season".

We DO have shit players but you have to give them some kind of belief - yet the messaging is so poor. Just try harder and er, that's it. You have to find some way to give them a chance to get a result, however that might be - but anyone can see that setting up this way gives us practically no chance of winning a match. There aren't many alternatives to the default XI he sends out but there are some (Tolu, Mané, I'd argue that Wes Okoduwa is worth a go at RWB given how awful the senior players in that position are) - and yet it's the same stuff every week.

I wouldn't have expected anyone to keep us up. I don't think though that you can come in and keep losing every single week, as otherwise, what was the point paying the other guy off and employing you.

Thanks Deutsch. Just wondering if any manager has ever had the balls and honesty to just come out and say what everyone else can see with their own eyes, morale be damned.

I also wonder if putting academy players into the team at this point could do more harm than good for their long term prospects? That said, it's not like the academy is a production line of first team ready players. But those few with potential might be stunted by having to play alongside this bunch of no-marks who can't pass, score, or win.

I think so simply because there's too much of the season left and a new manager (if we can get one!) will be tainted by relegation. Leave it until Easter at the earliest then a new manager will have time to assess the squad but won't be expected to turn anything around before the summer. As compensation and to try and show they do actually give the merest toss Fosun should refund half of all season tickets as suggested by @Del Woppio.
This is where I'm at. A new manager could not do some of the obvious mistakes Edwards is making:
Starting JSL/Hwang
Playing a back 5 when we concede soft goals anyway
Trying to play on the counter irrespective of the opposition without selecting players capable (not that I think we have any)

All that said we have a terrible squad, with no confidence, who are going down, are going to lose most weeks and probably beat Derby's record irrespective of who is in charge. The bulk of the squad won't be here next year, some will be sold, others sent on the first of their Wolves shit signing loan cycle, so working on the team for next season would have minimal benefit. We aren't making many if any January signing and nor should we, I also hope that there's a relegation option to send Krejci back as what looked like an overpayment in the PL would be a ridiculous use of recourses for a Championship club. We sack Edwards now and we'll be looking for another new manager for next season or at least left with one who's lost something like 13 in 17 and will be weary for it.

Sack him around Easter have a new man lined up beforehand and give him a month to work with those who are likely to still be here to see who he fancies. As for feeling sorry for Edwards, his salary was doubled, he'll have negotiated good severance terms given Shi's desperation to bring him in and he moved back to his family in Sutton. He knew what he was signing up for or at least should have done, he's not discovered deficiencies that didn't exist beforehand, he needs to suck it up.

I accepted relegation a good while ago and I’m now at the point where beating Derby’s record looks highly unlikely. As a ST holder I get no joy from watching us and I don’t think anything that happens in the January window will change that. I don’t see anyone who we want for next season wanting to join and selling any one of a number of players will have little impact on performances. That being the case I’d happily accept selling any of the current squad at hopefully inflated January prices and muddling through the rest of the season with whoever’s left. If we sold Andre, Arias and JSL it would start building a transfer kitty for the summer but would also allow them to offer existing ST holders a rebate or big discount for next season as compensation for the shit-show of a season that may well get worse. The club desperately need some good PR and a couple of hundred quid to 20000 ST holders would be a good start and in the grand scheme of things £4m is a fraction of the fees wasted on players line Djiga and Tchatchoua.

and the same amount as we spunked up for a manager who 99% of people knew was unfit and underqualified for the job

Look, we're currently 16 points off safety and no-one is keeping us up and it's an almost impossible job to make this rabble of rats look like footballers.

Edwards will just be a 4 million quid punching bag for the next few months and lose his job when we're officially relegated.

JSL in all likelihood is getting booed at the next home game, so he is going to be forcing a move in Jan for sure

with a nice payoff I daresay

Every bit as uninspiring and underwhelming as I expected. Jeff had been desperate to get him here for years for some reason then gets the sack not long afterwards.

I wouldn't care less if they sacked him tbh, nice guy but should not be managing us and with little or no improvement from Vitor, what was the point of spending money on compo for VP and his staff then paying compo to Boro to get RE here

I'm not even kidding here. Get Wrexham to release Conor Coady (they don't want him, don't want to be paying him and he doesn't want to be there) and he can be player/manager.
Not player manager Dan - seen every game he’s played for Wxm this season and very sadly he’s lost it. As a manager and motivator - absolutely! But not a player

It’s striking how much time his assistant coach spends talking to him in the tech area during the match. It’s incessant. Lord knows what they were discussing as they made no changes until a LFL one when Mane came on. Very little conversation, if any, with Pedro Silva.
