Summer 2026: Stay or Go

Maybe hyperbole, but we're allowed to do that on a football forum during one of our worst seasons ever (I said 'one of!!!'), even better if it annoys the TWF nitpicking pseud contingent

I read it as a cumulative thing; the worst goalkeeping cohort we've had. Sa himself was more like a fucking hologram than a keeper at the start of this season, and played a big part in our awful start and subsequent embarrassing relegation catastrophe.

Paul Jones was worse than either Sa or Johnstone and we played him in the PL by choice, Oakes as back up was worse than Sa. Andy Marshall on a par with Bentley and a very young Ikeme were what we had in 2003/4 if you exclude the first game of the season. That's worse and in the PL. No doubting what we have isn't fit for purpose though

I've seen multiple Wolves keepers who are objectively way worse than José Sa, I haven't disliked many as much as I do him.
Sa only annoys me when he clearly doesnt want to play. He did when GoN signed Johnstone and again early this season.

The rest of the shit i can handle. Dont overly dislike him but would glady replace him. As long as the replacement isn't from our other keeper stock.

Johnstone on the other hand...just no likey at all. Half arsed off the pitch, a general liability on it.

Ten bastard million. Cheers to Hobbs and his golfing days out.

Jones 2nd time for me. Honourable mentions to Beasant and Hansbury on loan for what they cost us.

If Sa had just made one simple change to his game, stop rushing out and taking opponents out unnecessarily and giving away ridiculous penalties, he’d be much better thought of. His kicking is often iffy and he isn’t great with the ball at his feet but I could live with that as it’s an ability thing rather than dreadful decision making.

I don't have a problem with Sa personally and he would be great in the Champ (not that he'd stay) but I read Nicholas's comment as the goalkeeping group as a whole being poor. I mean, lose Sa to injury or suspension and we're re left with the hopeless Johnstone and Championship/League One level Bentley

I feel a big weight off my chest now we've explained to EP why we put a thumbs up reaction on someone's post. Phew!

I know it's in vogue to criticise Sa, but to say he's one of our worst 3 keepers ever, and have people agree!?

Maybe I didn’t make my point as eloquently as I hoped……..or maybe you didn’t read it properly.

I was more talking about the collection of all three goalkeepers as a collective, rather than individually.

Of course, Sa is a better keeper than Mark Kendall - I’m not stupid.

But I’d much rather some of the lower ranked keepers - Mike Stowell and Michael Oakes for example - than Jose Sa.

Personal opinion, of course.

The fucking stupid thing about Sá is that in terms of the fundamentals, he's probably the 3rd best Wolves keeper I've seen (Rui 1, Murray 2). Unfortunately he's also an idiot who can't be trusted not to throw a game away, sack off a match at the last minute or completely down tools because he's thrown a wobbly.

That run at the start of the season where he'd faced something like 15 shots and conceded 12 goals is one of the most pathetic displays I've ever seen from any professional footballer, let alone just goalkeepers.

I'm having Hennessey over him tbh.

Flawed but nowhere near as flawed.

I dunno, if there was anything to deal with outside of the 6 yard box Wayne was pretty much a waste of a shirt. I'll never forget him getting thrown around under a high ball at Blues.

Sá is almost the complete opposite of that of course. He'll randomly start charging out for no reason and loves chopping down an attacking player in the box but when he wants to he can actually command his box under a high ball, almost as well as Murray who is one of the best I've ever seen at that.

I think the thing that made Rui so exceptional was his positioning. He was very rarely in the wrong place and used to make amazing saves in such an unfussy manner. His kicking was an absolute horror show of course but in terms of his keeping he was right up there.
