Summer 2022 Transfer Window

Given they tried Neto at times on weekend as a wing back (Traore?) and the lack of form RAN/Jonny are in, fullback depth is becoming a more pressing issue before window closes imo.

If Boly goes hope they do get a replacement as well, very little experience in that CB line without him.

I don't think it's that they "can't afford him", I think it's more that they probably won't pay what we want; not in this window, anyway.

I reckon he'd fit in really well at Arsenal with the way they set up and play, so I can see why they'd be interested. But I don't think his performances so far this season mean we'll get top value for him, so we're better off keeping for now. Plus he's signed a long term contract so unless he's throwing his toys out the pram (highly doubt it after a long injury lay off), we have no reason to sell him.

Very much seems like Mendes feeding something to the press to get his client's name/profile up

Similar stories floated around Neves last year

There are rumours that Andrea Belotti has turned us down but they were started by calciomercato so likely made up.

I'm not sure that would be a wise move anyway. He'd be on big wages and is 29 before Christmas. Someone with that profile would need to hit the ground running, but he's never played in England and he's not had a pre-season anywhere, he last played in June for Italy. It's no good to us if he's ready in October.

Besides which we don't create anything for any striker.

This didn't happen.
It did. Watch a replay. There was times in first half in defence when they went to back 5 with Jonny central and Neto as a wing back. Spurs exploited it. I'm not the only one that noticed it, though the websites calling our line-up a 3-5-2 are wrong because for most of the match it was 4-3-3.

No, it didn't. Spurs playing a front 3, meant Jonny had to mark Son when he pulled out wider, then Neto has to stay with Perisic and can't pass him on. Whereas Kulusevski primarily came inside, which meant Guedes didn't have to do the same.

He could have just let Perisic wonder forward unmarked but then you'd have likely said he was lazy or shirked his defensively responsibility.

Anyone would think that some of our fans haven't even watched us play for the last 3/4 years and can't recognised the positive elements of a 343 formation against a team playing 433. I don't need to watch a replay because I knew it was going to happen before a ball was kicked, it's basics.

To be fair, the commentator on BT Sport did say that Wolves were going to 3 at the back when Spurs had possession, which was wrong, it was just Neto tracking the run of Perisic when he came forward.

It was Neto tracking back as WsWolf said.

Jonny and RAN both tucked in and when on the counter it was Nunes that operated on the right and Guedes on the left as Neto was tracking the very impressive Perisic.

It's the only bit of tactical nous Lage has got right this season.

Yep, in Lage's defence we completely nullified one of their biggest threats for 60 minutes until Neto was dead on his feet.

Neto's positioning was still far too deep for me, IMO, but I said as much in the matchday thread and know I'm not convincing anyone else of it.

It was tactical Alan.

Well for 15 minutes of the first half we were camped in their third. They had a spell pushing us back.

The alternative was leave the back 4 1v1 with Perisic, Kane, Son and Kulusevski and have Neves plugging the gap. Given the tactic Lage used saw us boss the majority of the First half, play through the press with ease and restrict them to set pieces and have plenty of opportunities ourselves then he got it right.

Unfortunately they got better second half and we had to bring Donck on which meant we simultaneously got pinned back out wide whilst now losing the midfield battle we were winning.
