Summer 2022 Transfer Window

in an ideal world I'd have not signed Guedes and kept Gibbs white.
Hardly an ideal world when Gibbs-White has done absolutely nothing for us so far this season, and we haven't even seen Guedes play properly for us yet

Seen top players come in from Spain and be useless over here. With the same regularity. Willian Jose scored more than 11 in La Liga and he is one of the worst centre forwards I've seen since Robert Taylor.

It's a good deal for us and Forest are overpaying so you can't moan at that, especially when his contract is running down and no indication he is going to renew. I get why wolves have done it, I was just saying in an ideal world I'd have not signed Guedes and kept Gibbs white.

You just aren’t going to keep him settled as a back up or fleeting appearances, he wants more regular football and he’s more likely to get it at Forrest.
Reality is his best football has always come in the championship still get it all to prove at PL level.

He was our best player Saturday whilst Guedes main contribution was dribbling the ball out of play under no pressure like a Hwang impersonator. However both are such small sample sizes I wouldn't ever use them as an argument. I am basing it off having watched both of them play a decent amount of times.

Fun fact: On average, players moving from La Liga to the Premier League see a 5% drop in output, vs a 17% drop when moving from the Championship to the Prem (which also happens to be the same average drop in output for players moving from the Bundesliga to the Prem, funnily enough).

The odds are in our favor here.

And just so you guys know I'm not pulling your leg, I'll point out that MLS is really bad in this regard; players moving from MLS to the Premier League average a 36% drop in production.

I'd imagine the data is skewed here. A higher proportion of those signed from Spain will go to top clubs, the opposite is true for the championship players.

I'd have my imagined version of MGW over my imagined version of Guedes in a 4231 as I think he can create and break sides down in tight spaces. All that said the manager is playing him down the right, rather than the middle where he won't that effective, neither will he if we are moving to 433. So for how Lage wants to play / utilise him then Guedes is probably the better option.

It's a shame but for all the reasons discussed over the last few months was always the most likely outcome

I've a feeling that has more to do with Lage not fancying Podence wider but we can't really say for sure.

Definitely looks like 433 is the plan, I think it gives us more stability but doesn't really help us when we need to break teams down but we'd have the option to go 4231 I suppose.

They all think its too pricey too.

They are right though: if they stay up and he's part of it it's all relative. It just seems an absurd fee when they're paying Lingard a fair chunk a week so have probably ended up spending circa £60m for two players who play the same, very specific position.

Am I right in thinking Forest's owners have links to Mendes, too? I seem to recall a few of his clients going there after they got taken over.

I'm disappointed MGW is leaving, tbf it's mostly sentimentality from me, young local lad, academy etc, blah, blah. However I think he is a good player and will improve.
But the fee is massive, pays for Nunes pretty much and if the rumours are true about him not wanting to sign a new contract/wanting to leave, it's for the best.

Interesting that some are saying he's unproven in the Premier league and Guedes will replace him, who also happens to be unproven in the Premier league.
