Summer 2022 Transfer Window

Haven't you heard? Points won would've happened anyway because of the quality of the players. Points lost are because Lage is a PE teacher with alien hand syndrome
Ole finished 2nd last season and we mostly think United's squad is shit. What a magician! Don't know why they sacked him.

Lage isn't a top end coach nor is he a shit one. Lands somewhere in the middle right now. He has earned the right to be given players to help him though. He fails then, on his back be it.

He could have easily done a Stale and ignored the facts in front of him and pushed on with a playing style that the players didn't suit. He tried early doors in pre-season, thankfully he saw what we saw and binned the idea.

Another thing where I think some might not get on with Bruno is he isn't Nuno. Nuno had a something about him and created a bond with the fans and the community. Bruno could have tried to do an impression of Nuno but i'm thankful he didn't, be your own person even if that means you are withdrawn more from the fans. When we won our first home game I was hoping he didn't try to replicate what Nuno did at the end of wins.

Never ever take what a manager says seriously, they all talk bollocks and do strange things when you look back. If you are winning, no one notices. Nuno was saying solutions from the defeat v Cardiff but it never wound people up until last season. KJ waffled on about power forever but only in his drab last season did it become an issue. Jurgen Klopp got his team to do a team celebration in front of the Kop after drawing with WBA ffs.

A lot of the things being thrown at Bruno here are no different to last season - Plan A and no plan B, odd weak selections (hello FA Cup tie v Southampton) and late sub calls.

I don't expect Jeff to be dipping into the Fosun pot in the summer and do I expect Neves and a few to say goodbye. I then expect the club to bring in players that can play in his favoured style/formation and to have options from the bench that aren't wiped out as soon as we pick up 2 or 3 injuries

Its amazing really to think we have done 3 seasons with essentially 1 striker and 3 central midfielders and not added an upgrade in the centre of defence.

Nice to have you back posting the common sense, realistic view, similar to mine but you're more eloquent

I just can't buy the "look at the league table" argument either.

We're above all of Leicester, Brighton and Southampton as it stands. I would 100% take Brodge, Potter or Hasenhüttl over Lage. Probably Vieira too.
Hasenhuttl ??........not a hope . And for all the talk about Potter he still hasn't finished a season with Brighton in a strong league position . The League table does not lie.......at the end of a season . We are 8th right now - which would be a great finishing position given what most of us were predicting pre season - but the season is not finished yet , our disappointing run might continue and we end up lower than 8th . Let's assess then .

Yeah, I have absolutely no idea why people hold Hasenhüttl in such high regard on here. It’s weird. Plus he isn’t particularly likeable either. Potters alright.

Hasenhuttl's a good manager and his team's play good football.

I think he comes across well in interviews and is a likable character.

Potter is the same, if Brighton ever buy him a good striker they would easily eclipse our position.

We've spent £107m on players in the last 2 seasons of which 2 are current first teamers (Sa, Marçal) and 6 are subs (Silva, Semedo, RAN, Gomes, Chiquinho, Mosquera) 1 has been bombed (KJH) and 3 are out on loan (Bolla, Jeong, Kawabe)

It's not Lage I have a problem spending money it's people that are completely unfit for purpose in the backroom and at the top of the club.

Still we have a net spend of £0. Winner.

Plus a sizable loan fee on Jose £5m wasn't it? Another on Trincao said to be £6m and presumably it cost us to not sign Vitinha. If the Traore deal ends up being as it now appears then that may even top the lot.

I think the league table doesn't lie is a bit of a myth as in the grand scheme of things 38 games is still a relatively small sample size and we have seen quite a large number of stats that say we have out performed our expected goals, expected goals against and expected points totals.

That is through a combination of factors but the smart money is on that not being sustainable. The performances especially at home haven't been good. If we finish 7th or above then I can accept it as its a means to an end and we have European football if we finish 8th then I'd rather have finished 12th if it meant being entertained more and ultimately trying to change the style of play.

Loan fees are murky at best so I've left them out but I'm sure you're right.

We like to insist on an option, which in itself is a good thing, but the penalties for that are higher I think. So if the judgement is incorrect it costs

Our over performance in terms of stats this season isn’t sustainable, so while we’ve had an excellent season, if we play the same way next season we’ll be somewhere around 12th-15th. Possibly worse if we lose Neves and Moutinho.

I think to ignore the table is disingenuous. At the end of the day it's the primary benchmark for any season. That said to use that as the only metric and ignore the evidence of your eyes and statistics is equally closed minded.
We are also bloody boring to watch in more games than not, which is fine when we win, but when we don't and you've shelled out £550+ for the privilege it's a consideration. We've lost as many as we've won at home this year and average just over a goal a game.

Whether you blame Fosun, the manager or a combination of the 2 it's not going to be a sustainable way of playing in the future and needs addressing

By eclipse our position you mean finish 8th instead of us, or 7th and above? Absolutely zero chance of Brighton finishing top 7 in their current guise, striker or no striker

The league table is a guide, but not an absolutely science. If nuno had finished 8th last year, there wouldn’t have been people questioning his future. Similarly, if Lage finished 13th this year playing the brand of football we are currently there will be huge questions.

We are 8th more because of other teams failings rather than our success IMO, which I agree isn’t sustainable.

You have the big 6, West Ham possibly in champions league next year, money bags Newcastle. Leicester recovering some players, the worry is serious stagnation and challenging top 6/7 becoming more and more difficult
