Summer 2022 Transfer Window

of course they could but having a well-known brand would help.

I'm not saying it's a good idea or the right thing to do, just why i think they bought wolves.

I also think that's why Southampton is under Chinese ownership, given how much trade from China goes through the port there.

The why being to get known and also for a "hearts & minds" thing too

However, the world's changed, especially around how unacceptable pumping money into football has become in China.

They're just an investment firm, they give people money to do the work not bid for the contracts to do the work, why do they need a big reputation building/brand awareness exercise for that?

People are generally far less scrupulous receiving money than they are handing it out.

Talksport (I know) reporting man u will try for Neves or Tielemans if de Jong falls through...

That's as bonkers as Streetly's ramblings
I’m not bonkers. Our approach to the last three years is completely inexplicable and speculation on the scenarios that led to this is one way to try to make sense of it.

So far, this window is looking very likely to be the worst yet. Jeff and Scott are not magically going to learn how to strengthen a team in the transfer market. They have already proven categorically that they cant do it.

I'd take Collins, he looks a good player but weren't Burnley quoting a ridiculous fee for him?

Yeah, people were using it as a stick to beat the club with that we should just swoop in with a £15m bid. Double that wouldn't get him.

Of course the cool kids wanted to sign him last year.

Mate tells me Nathan Collins is the CB target.
Hard not to feel like that one’s going to be another occasion where we flirt with Burnley throughout the window while never actually getting close to their valuation - and then we end up with nothing or someone much worse. I don’t think we’ll get close to what they want.

Percy saying we have rejected a £20m + bid for MGW

Percy saying we have rejected a £20m + bid for MGW
Fits in with what I was told/posted earlier. We’re keeping him unless he tries to force a move. I’d have thought £20m would have tempted them.

The Percy seems to think £30m × add ons to make us consider any sale.

Agree with you though, only goes if he pushes for it

How would it tempt them if we are keeping him unless he forces a move?

Depends if he will sign a deal. I know E+S Liam is saying they want to keep him regardless, but if he wont sign a new deal there will be a fee that will tempt them as otherwise you risk losing him for a lot less which is not a sustainable strategy if you are having to sell to buy. This seems to be a re-occurring theme at the moment where some of our most saleable assets are in the last year or 2 of their deals.

Anything north of 20m for MGW is good business . It's doesn't happen too often that we can rear our own and then sell them for big money . Little point keeping him if he wants to go .

So with offers coming in for him, he'll be kept if he signs a new contract.

Good that we’ve rejected the bid. Especially if other clubs are interested he should only really go for a silly fee. Otherwise I’d be encouraged if we are shaping the attack around adding him into it to give us more creativity

I can see him being good in a setup with a #6/#4 and two #8s, as it were.

Though will we do that? I have my doubts.
