Summer 2022 Transfer Window

The World Cup is surely a factor as well . Neves needs first team football if he is to push his way into the first 11 for Portugal in November . He'll get first team football at Wolves - guaranteed . He might not get that in other clubs that have shown an interest in him .

What's wrong with waiting another year to move could be his thinking .

Fabio , Neto and Chiquinho are all players that can only get better next season , along with Toti and Kilman and RAN too .

It's far from doom and gloom in my view .

Not saying it's perfect or ideal , but there are plenty of positives as well - there are far too many posters here who are determinded to go around with half empty glasses .

If that is his thinking then his mind has changed drastically from a few weeks ago when he was crying on the pitch, practically admitting he is leaving in an interview after the game.

I still think he will leave later in the window, although i'm less sure about it than before as I thought someone would have made him one of their top targets. Looks like those top teams who can afford him are still unaware of how good he is.

Given the same players have the same manager what do you think will change this season given our dismal goalscoring record last year and horrific run of form?

We haven’t signed any players for a squad that was in relegation form for the last quarter of the season and we have the same manager in charge.

People aren’t “going around” doing anything. They’re saying it’s shit, because it’s shit.

There's a feeling of despondency because the track record over the last few transfer windows has been the same. Appalling. We have a pattern that repeats: chase after unattainable targets, unsurprisingly fail, sign no-one or crap. Rinse and repeat. The squad and manager showed from February onwards last season that we are in a downward spiral that is heading only one way: relegation. We need a stronger and bigger squad to compete, the owners aren't going to provide that as they think they know best. But they don't seem to really, do they?

In the spirit of 1986's post, reasons to be cheerful 1, 2, 3
Some of the younger players such as those mentioned will improve with more experience
As it stands it doesn't look like we are selling our best player
Rumours are a lot of people's favourite Moutinho is coming back
Adama is back and is arguably our most exciting player
MGW had a great Championship season and will be back with a point to prove
Raul is a further year removed from his injury
Neto looked like his old self before getting injured in the final game of the season
We have Jonny for a full season
U18s made the FA Youth Cup semi final so perhaps one of those will break through unexpectedly
Dendoncker has made rch his position in the Belgium side. They are better than Wolves, so surely he can for us too.
Conor Coady is a top bloke

No knocking any of those or adding buts, this is my positivity corner

La-Jeff had a point yesterday when saying that the club had improved the goalkeeping position by replacing a player who was declining with an upgrade. For me its debatable if Sa is better than years 1 & 2 Patricio but he is a good keeper. The problem is with the rest of the team / squad. Kilman showed promise last season but we haven't improved the centre backs area since promotion. Boly is on the decline and Saiss has gone. RAN looked good at times but Jonny was/is still good so that position hasn't been improved. Semedo is a better defender than Doherty but he hasn't improved the team. Neves / Moutinho are class but how much longer can Moutinho keep going, will he sign another contract and will Neves be here in August? The forward line is nowhere near as productive as our first two years after promotion.
So to wrap it all up with a bit of positivity we have a decent keeper, strength at left fb/wb, Neto when he's back to full fitness but question marks over the rest of the squad/side.

The lack of transfer activity has shifted the focus to the squad but the biggest issue is Lage. I’m far from convinced he’ll change much whichever players come in and a large part of the poor results at the end of the season was that opponents had worked out how to play against us yet Lage persisted with the same approach.

Mendes though. Nobody doubts in the deals he's involved in that we'll have some wins and some losses.

Listen - I'm no different to anyone else here , I log in every day to see if there is news .

However , it's 29th June , not 29th July . Football is a business in all respects , business people hang in there for the best deal all the time and could not give a toss that you or I are frustrated .
If we get four decent signings completed before say August 10th - that'll do me .

There are reasons to be positive if you think hard enough . I did list a few in another post . Of course goals are an issue - but we had no Neto last season , Raul was a shadow of his former self and Fabio wasn't trusted . There are others too .

As I said previously - it's far from what we as supporters would like , but it's far from all negative as well......and it's only June 29th .

I think the despondency comes from having seen this story play out the same way for several seasons in terms of transfer floundering and confusion about our playing identity.

I haven't given up personally, but we can all see what's coming if we stay on this path. A lot of the positives you mention may come to pass, but much of it is wishful thinking

Our business people are so smart they operate differently to other business people in the same industry, all whilst having very little experience in the field. That's how special they are and how lucky we are to have them.

We haven't exactly got a great track record in bringing first XI players in since the summer 2018 window (!)... one decent signing would be an improvement.

I fear you'll be very disappointed if you're hoping for four!

My question was what do you think will change.

How do you think Neto will change things? What will change about Raul or why will Fabio be trusted and what will be be trusted to do?

We haven't replaced Trincao or Saiss yet so what do you think will change there?

I personally don't think 4 signings which was mentioned earlier is enough anyway. Before you consider us being terrible at the end of last season anyway plus the fact that we have lost 5 players that used to make every match day squad when fit. You have to take into account that teams can make 5 subs this season, so you do actually need a good squad and options. I doubt you'll get away with naming 3 or 4 viable subs and the rest fodder that are never going to get on the pitch. You could try and do that but you're putting yourself at quite a big disadvantage.

My glass is completely empty, smashed on the floor, put in the bin and taken to the tip.
