Summer 2022 Transfer Window

One thing that's puzzling me a little bit is Neves. It seems like there aren't any offers for him at the current price and he seems ok with that. Another season of him here is another season where he doesn't win anything. He's not a #headsgone type, but at the same time I would think he'd be quite keen to leave so he can progress his career.

Aye, but then next summer it only takes £20m, so he's a lot more attractive.

I know we all think he's fucking brilliant, but when push comes to shove it looks like the higher end champions league don't, and anything lower than that is barely worth the hassle moving for really outside of the big six here. I know that's really snobbish (who knows, maybe even wrong) about the likes of Roma, Lyon, Leipzig etc, but I think it's the way football is, it's massively centred on the Premier League.

Fee wise I'm really conflicted. I'd have said c£60m, but then that's more than Phillips and Raphinha, both of which will be worth more if you ask anybody that's not a wolves fan. Pep apparently only wants £80m for Bernardo, which is a bargain compared all that. So if his market value is actually £40m, and we won't sell at that sort of money, I don't think he'd kick up a stink

Well he knows next year he goes for whatever we get given, if not he goes for free the year after and gets to pick whoever he wants. He’s also got 10+ years left to “win stuff”, and there’s not actually many teams outside of farmers leagues who win stuff - for example everyone is miles off Liverpool and City in this country.

I’d imagine he’s no ones number one target, but they may come knocking at the end of the window. Then we’ve fucked it and end up signing no one as people ask us to pay over the odds as they know we are desperate or charge a premium as they haven’t got chance to do business themselves.

If he stays another year and we then have to replace him and Moutinho in the same window with only ~£20m coming in, then, well it's gonna be a bit tricky.
Although if we're shopping for champs players then, maybe less of an issue...

I guess it depends how serious we are with the £70/80/90m or whatever request. If we are seriously shutting down conversations wanting that then it's another to chalk up in the delusional list. More likely we want £40-£50m and there isn't an interest from the dozen or so clubs who could pay that. I can't see him signing another contract as he permanently stays in that position. Does another year and at £20m next Summer we'll have plenty of offers

Would £35m this season be pragmatic then? I guess the question is effectively then would a loan fee of £15m for Ruben for a season be a good decision?

Sellars probably thinks 6 months on loan at Barca for fuck all as long as they cover his wages is a good deal....

You lot would be shit at bargaining. You’ve gone from ‘he’s clearly worth £50m+‘ to ‘I’d take £30m’ in the space of a few posts.

If he stays for another 2 seasons and leaves on free all the better for us - we’ve got to see him in his prime.

If we're selling to buy then not getting anything for Neves gives us problems.

Taking 30 million for Neves and buying say the guy who has gone to Fulham is a worse deal than a year of Neves and only 20million next year.

Plus if he plays well and has multiple clubs after him then his expiring contract means little.

There's probably a sweet spot for Neves at around 40-45m where it's probably too good to turn down when you consider the time left on his deal plus the money we need to spend on reshaping the squad. Much less than that then it's pointless and we may aswell just keep him for another season. We are not exactly in a particular position of power but we also don't need to let anyone take the piss.

Don't think anyone realistically thought Neves would go for 70m+ did they? Surely was only ever gunna be 45-50 wasn't it? I know it would probably be a better pragmatic idea to sell him to fund 2 or 3 players to freshen up the squad but personally I'll be happy to see him play for us for another 1/2 seasons.

To be honest I expected Neves to go and probably still do. I ‘accepted’ it as he deserves a chance at a bigger club and the money (£50m-£60m) could help fund the changes in our squad that are clearly needed.
However if he doesn’t go and I still ‘hope’ he doesn’t, then we keep the best midfielder of my lifetime [Moutinho and Hibbit with a case against].
If he does stay, it shouldn’t mean that the squad changes don’t happen. Aside from the profit we make, even a net zero spend should be achievable with some of the current squad assets we have.
Hoever (pre loan), Semedo, Donck, Traore, MGW, Hwang, Pod, Raul, Coady, Jonny could all be traded to fund the necessary changes we need. This doesn’t mean I think they should all go or are all shit (Jonny being a particular favourite of mine), but they’d all command a fee and a rebuild/refresh is required

My big concern is up front. Unless Raul is back to the player he was before his injury then we have a non-league level attack, we won’t score any goals and we will be relegated.

The jury's out on everyone else, but Neto definitely has goals in him if you use him right

Wolves Grasshoppers linked with 18 year old Chilean winger Dário Osorio for £3M.
