Summer 2021 transfer window

So if we follow the likely chain of events, what are the thoughts on Guedes if he rocks up here?

He can also play up front or wide. Confidence player who I think would really suit this new attack minded style. Not Traore rapid but certainly quick enough. I don’t mind him to be fair .Others hate the idea.Ocampos is yes please,

You can't use Doherty, Douglas, Costa or Cav. All replaced by better players. We sold all of those because we wanted rid.

Doherty can certainly be used. He was excellent for us in the PL, we got good money for him and we suffered as a team following his departure.

Semedo is a better player but he hasn't eclipsed Doherty yet in terms of what he's brought to the team

I think it's more selective to claim that people who derided him as brainless on a regular basis, didn't even name him on teamsheets or just wanted him gone from the club considered anything beyond that.

Even just before the season started I was told it was fine if he went as we had Pod and Trincao and MGW could fill in wide. I don't remember any of his critics considering his replacement as a factor in their point of view on Adama.

If someone didn't like him and wanted him gone that's perfectly fine, but people should own it when he does go and be consistent.
I still have no issue with him going. He still frustrates me more than he excites me and I don't see that changing. The argument that without him we wouldn't be creating anything doesn't hold water as Lage is setting the team up to get the best out of him. If he weren't there then he'd tweak the way we play.
2 caveats to that.
1) If we were to sell him, then you have to have time to spend the money, if that revenue is needed to improve the squad elsewhere. 10pm on Tuesday is pointless
2) A loan with an option would be brainless.

Because I don't think Spurs have the money for 1 and don't think Jeff is stupid enough to do 2 then I don't think it'll happen

People surely can't moan about Adama going now or guilt trip him about being greedy.

A fair chunk of posters have wanted to pack his bags for him for over 18 months!

Hope he doesn't go as I don't believe we'll get better in with the time left
There's a huge difference between (i) saying 3 or 4 weeks ago that we'd be happy to cash in on him and replace him with more suitable player(s) and (ii) saying we should sell him with only a few days left in the window when he's finally started showing a little more promise under our new coaching team and us being forced into signing whoever we can get as a replacement.

And I think you know that.

Depends what you want from a wingback. Doherty was great around the box and did link up nicely with Raul. However he couldn't defend at all, was idle and his crossing was appalling for a professional footballer. (Mind semedos hasn't looked stellar for us so far.) I'm much happier with Semedo than Doherty and think the latter was on a downward trajectory anyway.

At the point they were sold Patricio, Douglas and Doherty were the 3 who were in the first 11. Rightly or wrongly none of the others were.

I'd say we haven't sold anyone we didn't want to on footballing grounds. You could argue from the manager's perspective Traore would be the first

Don't look for a conspiracy mate, I'm just pointing out the obvious before the goalposts get changed again.

Adama has constantly been spoken about as a player many just want shot of. A frustrating, brainless player who holds us back, if anything.

His replacement (if we even need to replace him, plenty of people just wanting Neto and Pod starting), and the timing of such a replacement, is a secondary factor and has overwhelmingly been discussed as such

Jota. I don't think Nuno wanted to sell him.

I have high hopes for Semedo this year myself, but talking about what has actually happened, rather than wishful thinking...

I certainly don't think Doc was idle under Nuno. He actually physically pulled himself together and had a couple of top flight seasons playing at the very limit of his ability and contributed massively to our success. He gets next to no credit for that either, which is a shame.

Semedo struggled with defending, crossing has been patchy too, he cost considerably more than we sold Doc for, and the team performed significantly worse with him in it.

In fact, the whole 'evolution' from that wingback style Doc was a fairly big part of was a giant clusterfuck that precipitated the departure of the manager and the current unsettling flux we find ourselves in. It's hardly been a particularly successful swap for us so far!

Not looking for a conspiracy, I'm making a distinction to add some nuance to what you said.

I've always wanted him to succeed and would be happy for him to stay, but equally find him frustrating and have doubts he'll ever improve on the parts of his game that are lacking.

I certainly wouldn't advocate selling him this week if it means we either don't replace him or the replacement is inadequate due to lack of time.
