One promising Premier League fringe player told The Athletic he feels totally in the dark about his next career move now that the club’s manager has departed.
“Last season, I was sent out on loan with a view to impressing the manager who has now left. He had a plan in place for me and I was waiting to hear what his thoughts were for next season before deciding whether to go back out on loan, or even look for a move elsewhere if he didn’t fancy me,” the player explains.
“The new manager might not even know anything about me. So I’m now going to have to wait to hear what his thoughts are, possibly train during pre-season to show him what I’m about, and then decide what to do after that. I suppose you have to expect these things in football but it’s just so frustrating because I want to hit the summer running, whether that be with my parent club, out on loan, or somewhere else. Players like me who are on the fringes get overlooked during times of change.”
