Wolves are assessing other targets with Edson Alvarez the subject of a £12.5m bid from Ajax.
It had been claimed that the 21-year-old Mexico international was moving to Molineux after the CANCACAF Gold Cup. But although the club are well aware of him, they have so far not made an offer.
The versatile Alvarez is with Wolves striker Raul Jimenez with the Mexico squad in the United States preparing for the CANCACAF Gold Cup final on Sunday against the hosts and holders USA, who claimed their place after beating Jamaica 3-1 earlier on Thursday.
But at the moment it looks like Alvarez, who has been playing as a central midfielder for Mexico in a 4-3-3 formation but also operates as a centre back or right back, will not be joining Jimenez at Molineux.
Ajax are understood to be the only bidders for Alvarez, who looks certain to move on to pastures new this summer.
Wolves have already distanced themselves from reports claiming they are set to sign another central defender, Brentford’s Ezri Konsa.
