Snooker

Zhao vs Willo then.

Both were 25/1 pre-tournament which is hefty (8 players were shorter - Trump, Ron, Wilson, Selby, Robbo, Allen, Murphy and Higgins)

Long way back from here for Williams. From the bits I’ve seen Zhao has been terrific and will take some stopping.

He was legit a top 10 player before his ban, which is why some of the coverage framing it as a seismic shock is a bit off.

Been the best player over the fortnight without a doubt.

The commentary team and the crowd seem fair and balanced this evening.

Zhao's getting that little bit of luck on top of playing the better snooker today. You'd like it to be closer for the spectacle, but he's handled himself brilliantly

Ronnie made two 147s in the same match against Kyren Wilson yesterday.

Shaun Murphy out of the top 16 today for the first time since 2006. It was the longest unbroken streak (although to be fair John Higgins only dropped out for about 10 days fairly recently and got straight back in, otherwise he's been there since 1994).

Ouch, that will hurt his sizeable ego! Shows how competitive the top end has become, if lacking a little in flair

Absolutely mental. I think I read it would have odds of about 250,000/1

I've got tickets for the Players' Championship in Telford next month, first time going to the snooker

I used to watch a lot of snooker in the 80s, loved it. Lost interest after that. A while ago I got savaged by DW😁 for dissing Snooker and darts, so I decided to give Snooker another look (darts can still fuck off).
Watched the last tournament and currently watching this one and I'm enjoying it. It may be of course due to weather and not wanting to do my usual outdoorsy stuff.
One thing I've found is, the quality doesnt seem as good as it used to be. Now that may be down to my old git attitude of nothings as good as it was but to me the breaks dont seem as clean or the safety shots quite so accurate.

As good as when?

It's miles better than in the 80s, a 40+ break would win you a frame back then more often than not.

Literally every statistic, ex-pro *and* the eye-test disagree with you there mate!

Fair enough, it was a long time ago, rose tinted specs and all that. Not sure about the 40 break would likely win the frame though.
