Sir Jack R.I.P

Am too young to remember the dark, dark days of the mid-eighties but I know all about what he did for our great club.

Yes, there were mistakes but everything he did I feel was for the best interest of Wolves.

He saved our club, rebuilt the ground, provided funds for numerous managers and was in charge when we finally returned to the top flight.

Thanks for everything you have done for our club, and RIP Sir Jack.

3 Occasions I dealt with Sir Jack and I am honoured to say that I met him.

1) A group of us (inc Quirk) went to a reserve game at Telford (v Bolton I think) after the game Sir Jack told us meet him at his favourite Italian restaurant in Wolves. He purchased food for all of us and enough drinks to keep 30 happy, never mind 13. His rule was no one could leave until every drop of wine was had. Many stories told his favourite being how Moxey amazed him by getting the fee he did for Akinbiyi. Sir Jack was happy to accept the initial £3m bid.

2) Doing a charity auction, contacted him to ask for something different. He donated a pair of his old desert walking boots (although he was amazed we accepted and they sold

3) A mate was leaving the Uk for a new life in Australia. We managed to get hold of him to ask if he could give him a phone call after the game to wish him all the best. He did that and then arranged to meet him when his cruise ship docked in Perth. Which he did and took him and his wife out for a meal.

The man was a true gentleman

RIP Sir Jack. Heart and intention were always in the right place.

Saturday was always going to be a big crowd with the half price offer. It may sell out after this news, Sir Jack meant so much to so many Wolves fans. Considering coming down for the day myself.

26k as of tonight according to Jez just now on Midlands Today. Will be very close to a home sell out now.

26K +1

Just booked mine now. Only a few tickets left in Stan Cullis lower and then quite a few on the wings according to the stadium plan.

Without him our club wouldn't be where it is today. We have a lot to thank him for.

Some of the stories on here about him warm your heart.

Three great stories Kenny.

Flags at half mast.

Am saddened that I will not be able to be there in person on Sat for the tributes (but will be in spirit), but not long back on two legs & whilst its fine pottering about locally the knee is not ready for 8 hrs travel & football.

Looks like there will be a good turnout as very few tickets left via the online system now.

Good stories Kenny - mirrors what I have read about him elsewhere - a true Gent

RIP Sir Jack. Always came across as a great man who loved Wolves and Kenny's stories back that up. Hope those that are there today and on Saturday do him proud.

That's very nice of the Albion to say that. Like you say, some things transcend petty rivalry.

He got things right, he got things wrong but throughout his tenure as Wolves owner I never once felt he did anything that didn't have Wolves' interests at heart. These days it is such a rarity to have the club you support owned by someone who shares that same level of affinity with the club that the supporters do. In many ways, he was living our dream.

Sir Jack Hayward will always be remembered as a positive force at this football club because he set in motion a process of rebuilding and consolidation that has left us with a secure future. Even his decision to pass the club on was one done purely in the interests of the club and whatever people think of Morgan - I think he is still chasing Sir Jack's dream and developing the club in the image of Sir Jack. And perhaps that is his true measure - that he has left a legacy with the current owner that has largely been respected. He must have been very proud in recent weeks to see the home grown players in the team, this was always the one thing he wanted above all else.

A fine man. A Wolves man.

Couldn't have put it better. I never thought I'd feel so sad at the passing of someone I never met.

Desperately sad news.

Thank you for everything you did and everything you tried to do for the club. R.I.P Sir Jack.

Sir Jack did more than just save a football club from extinction. Because of his intervention, his love for the club, I met lifelong friends - people that I wouldn't have met if he didn't do what he did. He saved the club that gave us all memories we shall take to our graves. Some of them actually quite good! The golden tit had a genuine, direct and lifelong impact on tens of thousands of us. Cheers, Jack.

Agree with every word. Would we still have a club if not for him?

The kind and respectful tributes on social media from clubs, fans and players alike speaks volumes for the respect Sir Jack has earned.

Here's to that Rich. I think that sums it up nicely. Obviously, there was a massive part played by John Bird, but I do think the SJH years were very special.
