Scottish Independence watch

So what will happen to Scottish footballers (and other workers) employed in England or in the future wanting to be employed in England if the vote is Yes?

They wont be part of the UK or the EU, under UK employment law would they probably then need work permits? (K-Mac wouldn't get one under the football qualifying laws at the moment although presume anybody already in England would get some sort of waiver)

Probably won't be an issue for people already working in England.

I assume Scotland would join Norway,Iceland,Finland etc under the 'we don't want to be you (EU) but we like you' umbrella pretty soon.

Finland is a full member of the EU, with the Euro and so on.

The EFTA weirdos are pretty much just Norway, Switzerland & Iceland

Missed the :)

Its ok for you with all your money and oil, but the Icelanders get screwed over, as do pretty much anyone else who try to negotiate bilateral trade agreements with the EU

Yep Norway are ok due to their oil and Switzerland are ankles deep in cash so those two are fine.
Iceland got screwed and costs a fortune to import anything now.

Salmond seems to think as if by magic Scotland will join the first two.

:ursofunny:

That is without a doubt the worst poll I've ever seen them post and there's quite a lot of competition for that title as well. Why have they worded it like that?

I've no idea :icon_lol:

I hope 'supporter's choice Alex Salmond' is disappointed next week.

It does seem to be a campaign mired in obfuscation from both sides for fear of someone having to give a straight answer to questions.

Leaving aside the currency issue, I have yet to see a response on the border question subject to a yes vote.

In the event that Scotland is allowed entry into the EU without the normal waiting time or objections from Greece, Spain, Italy or others, new members have to de facto agree to membership of the Schengen area , whereas at present the UK is outside this agreement and therefore we will have to have a manned border control.

Alternatively, Scotland does not gain access to the EU and can as an independent country decide to police its immigration as it wishes. Again, the remainder of the UK is then at the mercy of whatever they decide and as a result we have to have manned border controls to vet immigration through Scotland.

The schengen area has manned border control, it's just if you arrive from another schengen country you land at an non-passport controlled area (much as you do when flying internal or from ROI in UK).

Makes a lot of sense to me.

Yes, absolutely and free travel unchecked travel within the Schengen area which creates a big potential problem on a new northern border. The UK stayed out of Schengen for a number of reasons.

Why a big problem? Is the UK the promised land? We have 'tight' borders now and seem to have a bigger 'perceived' problem with immigration than the rest of the EU

The fact that we stayed out of schengen, but allow free movement from eastern europe - the opposite of germany - has always seemed to be totally stupid

Glasgow isn't exaggerating something about Scotland, is he? #shocked
.

No not at all .Yesterday I saw the nonsectarian , not bigoted Orange order were out in force backing the NO ( surrender) camp.
Nicest bunch of chaps you could ever meet. They were on top form.I never heard one song about the Pope. They sort of make you proud to be British. If you know what I mean.

It would appear so to those asylum seekers that travel through multiple "safe havens" to reach the UK, although my intention is not to promote UKIP style fear more just a musing on an unanswered question, of which there are many.

The thing with the borders is the immigration rules, Scotland needs roughly 200,000 immigrants a year to fund the pensions and welfare bills. This as the SNP have stated will mean no rules on incoming immigrants.

When you look at the immigrant population, is says something to the UK that the biggest immigrant population is the English (Not even the Irish), even though the Irish have an entire Quango dedicated to looking after irish concerns.

what will happen, is thousands will fly to Scotland and walk into England without Border controls, presently there is free passage between Ireland and Eire, this is entirely due to the similar immigration policy.

The debate has transcended usual political / religious beliefs, Irish Catholics are voting No, and Scottish Protestants are voting Yes.

Anyone who doubts my comments on how it is here, you tube Jim Murphy.
Look at the houses attacked, Cars attacked for displaying a no sticker.

Having said that I have No stickers on my car, however friends have told me to remove them Friday, it's going to be hellish in Scotland on Friday
