This is when RL went NFL...

In January 1978, it was reported that the Hunslet club would revert back to traditional shaped posts. The “Tuning Fork” posts, seemingly, were universally disliked by the other clubs, as players complained they didn’t know where the try line was. At least one player touched down behind the dead ball line!

Hunslet did try putting cross hatching in the in-goal area but this didn’t convince the nay-sayers. The cost of changing back would be borne by the Rugby League as they had approved the new design before they were erected.
