ABK Beer Wheelchair International - England 66 France 33

Rob Hawkins scored four tries in a dazzling first-half performance which fired England to their third win in their last four meetings against their oldest and fiercest international rivals.

My wife’s Sister lived in Oak Flats Illawarra, and the Dragons were the local team, I visited the stadium before they changed their name to St George Illawarra.

Illawara's original team was the Steelers who competed in the ARL from 1982 to 1998. The Dragons are based in Carlton in Sydney's southern suburbs.

Didn’t they play at the Win stadium for a while?

Yes they did (known also as the Steelers Stadium). Illawara and Canberra were the first 2 teams from outside of Sydney to join the ARL comp in 1982.

Phil Gould was put into a VERY awkward situation there, especially as he had called for the book to be thrown at Latrell Mitchell during his broadcast commitments.

The pink boots don't really add to the intimidation somehow...

No reason why not - the NZ Warriors have been a very good expansion to the NRL.

I am not sure how many spots are available, and I am pretty certain the Australian government is very keen on one expansion spot going to a PNG side, but after that, I think the Orcas would be very welcome.

The NRL seemed keen on a Perth based team (the Reds were a casualty of the Super League wars) with the North Sydney Bears consortium bid coming up short and rejected by ARLC.

A Perth team could make a very decent day's rugby. Start with a NZ game, then over to one of the regular haunts for a regular time and late-ish game, before finishing with a game where Perth are at home. I could buy into that. Perth is that bit further behind than when games are held in Darwin at the moment to make the schedule very neat and tidy.

Unfortunately Telford narrowly beat my local team and so we're not involved
