A message from the RL Lions Association

The RL Lions Association would like to send their condolences to the family, friends and former team-mates of Lion number 303 Keith Hepworth, who sadly passed away earlier today.
Heppy was an Ashes-winning tourist with Great Britain in 1970 and formed one half of Castleford's famous H-bomb partnership with Alan Hardisty.
He had been in a nursing home for some time. Rest in peace Heppy old friend, thanks for the memories.

Been watching England v Samoa which I recorded a few week’s ago, Herbie Farnworth is some player, I’d never heard of him to be honest, not being a big NRL fan.

I remember the Shaun Edwards one. Adrian Morley I must have seen but have lost in memory.

No Tallis in Origin in there sadly. That was two reds and an orange for a bonus.

Papua New Guinea confirmed as new NRL expansion franchise - but ANOTHER team is set to be introduced first

Papua New Guinea's historic entry into the NRL is finally set to be announced next week in Sydney - but powerbrokers also want to see a Perth franchise operating in the 2027 premiership season.

Ezra Mam issued with NRL breach notice

The NRL has issued Brisbane Broncos star Ezra Mam with a breach notice after he pleaded guilty to drug driving and driving without a licence earlier this month.

Ken Davy, owner of Huddersfield Giants Rugby League club, has expressed interest in buying the Shay so that the Giants can play there temporarily from 2026 until
2028, while a new stadium is built for them in Huddersfield.

If approved, Mr Davy’s proposal would see major investment in upgrading the Shay to Super League standard, and would ensure it could continue to be used by FC Halifax Town and Halifax Panthers in the long-term.

Upgrades would include a new hybrid pitch with improved surface and drainage quality, which would be more resilient to the weather and would increase reliability for games.

The installation of the new pitch would be supported by the Premier League, Rugby League and external grants.

The great Alex Murphy OBE was sadly diagnosed with vascular dementia in late 2024, a year that also saw the sudden and very sad death of his wife, best friend and rock, Alice.

His illness has accelerated in recent years and the loss of Alice was a cruel blow to a man who has won just about every honour the game can bestow.

Left on his own, 85-year-old Alex became rather lost and his dementia led to some uncharacteristic, and rather unfortunate behaviour, including gifting his many medals, and much of the memorabilia associated with his illustrious career, to complete strangers, occasionally at a local pub and sometimes when they came to his home.

Understandably, this has left Alex's family very upset and they have issued a heartfelt appeal for the return of his collections, which are not just important to them but are of national significance.

That some people have taken advantage of Alex's confused seems likely: however many others may have accepted his 'gifts' unaware of his illness and fragile condition.

The rugby league family is, at its heart, decent: Rugby League Cares is urging anyone who has received medals or memorabilia of Alex's, either directly or via third parties, to do the right thing and return them.
