Ruben Neves

Think Neves was always likely to stay for the first season - the top six wouldn't have taken the chance & with anyone else he would be no better off than staying here (plus its irrelevant what amount of £s someone offers, we don't need the money)

Thelwell's comment on Nuno is spot on

Neves loving life at wolves, and will be here next season:

I suppose of note he states he wants to stay for his first year in the PL...

edit also:

read that yesterday and wasn't sure if it reading too much into non-native wording, but the whole 'first year' bit seemed a bit odd to me. the article didn't make me feel like he was cemented here.

I think you just have to accept that there will be a lot of articles and trying to read between the lines of every one over the summer will drive you mad. If he's here, fantastic, if not then the very best of luck to him and we'll have £50m to spend on a replacement. (I still can't get my head round it. Not that long ago I was hoping Yannick Sagbo would make a difference: now I am casually writing about receiving £50m for a player...)

So far to my knowledge, here and in Portugal, it's been reported that Man Utd, Real Madrid and Liverpool are looking, and in Real's case, have something in place, to sign Ruben Neves. I think there was an inevitability about a mass of transfer rumours from top sides as soon as his talent became apparent he began to shine. It will dominate the summer gossip until we make a signing, it will be enough to fill it's own thread.

No one's ever mentioned a buy out clause in his contract, but with being talked of in the same breath as Paul Scholes and his importance to the side, you'd hope that if he did leave, the fee would be astronomical.

Personally, I'd be very surprised if he did.

You don't NEED a buy out clause. You need phenomenally rich owners who say "we will take £75m, not a penny less". We have that. Buy out clauses don't really have the same use here as in Spain.

If Mendes wants him to move, he'll move.

Why would we sign a player with a first refusal to Real Madrid written in, from Porto? Makes absolutely no sense and there will be a lot more bollocks written (especially in Portugal) until the transfer window slams shut in early August

Madrid can buy players until 1 September. Only the UK is implementing this early window close.
I suspect it won't make a difference as all UK clubs will refuse to sell important players overseas as they won't be allowed to buy replacements.

the story will roll until the transfer windows close. If your building a Manor, you don't sell the divisions best player as a foundation. I really can't see him moving for a lot more that 75m

But he will move at the price WE want.

(And FOSUN will get 5% of his fee as extra commission, which is somewhat amusing)

But werent we told (on here) about Mendes moving his clients for confusing fees sometimes? regardless of how well they had done/not done at some clubs,
they were moved to others for either stupidly high or low amounts.

Not sure why people think Mendes can dictate if he leaves or not. He is his agent and can advise, but he can't force him or the club to do fuck all. The reality is Neves was always going to have a billion click bait articles surfacing every week as soon as promotion was secured it means nothing absolutely nothing.

If Man City, Liverpool or Man Utd want him he might not play, he is then in the same position he was at Porto. If he stays with Wolves he plays every game and will have a team built around him, that sounds pretty fucking awesome to me.

He may well get a new contract and deservedly so hes a machine, but I think he would be a fool to leave Wolves before he has played a game for us in the top flight.

People are getting a bit carried away with how much power Mendes has, Fosun are in control here no-one else.

I just can't imagine any club will bid the kind of money we'd want for Neves based on a season in the Championship, no matter how good he's been.

Agree with the last couple of posts. It won’t stop a million stories being posted over the summer & a section of our fanbase wetting their pants every five minutes.

I’ve already had screenshots of two different stories sent to me by a Liverpool supporting mate claiming they’re going to sign him!

We are now a premier league club. Our owners clearly want us to be at the top end of that league. So we are (bar the European super powers) going to be at the top end of the Mendes roundabout.

I know it's to be expected but you'd think the fuckers could wait until the end of the season before they start. I guess it's so they can still say he'd be stepping up from the championship. he'll be doing that anyway, and in our colours.

I'm getting just a little fed up with all this nonsense now. I don't imagine for a minute that Fosun and Wolves have broken any EFL rules this season. Why would they? If they were caught out, the ramifications could be serious. I'm not saying they haven't found a way of circumventing some rules, or applying a slightly different interpretation of the rules - just look at all the fuss with individuals/companies' tax affairs. No laws were broken - their advisers just worked out a way of them being able to do it without breaking the law. If this is a problem, then change the laws accordingly. Whatever Wolves have done was there to be done by all the other clubs if, and it's a big if, they could have persuaded Fosun to buy their club and Mendes to 'advise' on player recruitment. All this fuss is just hiding the fact that they are all jealous of Wolves' new found success and wishing that they themselves had been able to do it. And now the Premier League clubs are joining in with exactly the same motives. The big guns at the top don't want this little upstart from the West Midlands possibly crashing their cosy little party and I should imagine a lot of the clubs further down the table will be thinking that it will mean one less of the promoted three are available for relegation next season and therefore one more of their gang is in danger of the drop. So they think "lets all throw up as big a smokescreen as possible, plant the idea in heads that Wolves are 'cheating', chuck a load of mud and see how much of it will stick".

Pretty much my thoughts. If he carries on as well as he has in the first half of next season he could well go in January

At least that article puts to bed "how are Wolves paying these Champion League Players" stuff from clubs that are paying Champion League players £60k a week...

Clearly the likes of Villa and Leeds think that Porto pay their young players obscene money
