Rob Edwards - the prodigal son returns

Gary O’Neil is head and shoulders above Rob Edwards.

And I absolutely despise Gary O’Neil.

Edwards is much less of a bell end than O'Neil and at the very least his teams do at least have some kind of defensive structure.

The last thing this group of players needs is that arrogant prick coming in and telling them to press and position in a different way each game.

Agreed - O’Neil is a complete bellend, I despise him and am in no way advocating him coming back.

I’m just pointing out how far we’ve fallen - I remember how much of a horrendous appointment GON was at the time - and this one, in my opinion, has been even worse.

Which I didn’t think would be possible.

No chance. O'Neil inherited a reasonable team and made them worse to the point where he couldn't get a result. Edwards inherited probably the worst team in Premier League history and has failed to polish a turd. If old Shi had managed to coax O'Neil back (based purely on him not costing anything since we're doing it on the cheap these days, not on his results) then that would've amounted to professional negligence.

As soon as Shi was fired Edwards’ days here were numbered. And obviously it always felt like an appointment made with an eye to next season - a tacit acceptance of relegation already - but I still can’t get my head around it, even allowing for Shi’s incompetence, and ignorance of the sport.

Like, he must have been aware that he was under pressure from above when he approached Boro, yet he still pushed the boat out for someone whose arrival might as well have been have been accompanied by white flags hoisted over the stadium. Whichever way you game out how things might have gone after the point we hired him - and including the fact that Fosun clearly want out of football - we’re a club who willingly paid £4M for a caretaker manager. Edwards himself might be the only person who didn’t realise he was always going to be a placeholder appointment until Fosun got its shit together.

Hello Lycan.
I respect your views but I wonder who you are referring to when you said Rob Edwards has 'a good backroom team to support him'.

I'll put it here as I cba to start a thread and it's been discussed a lot on this one. Tomorrow S Bueno looks out and Krejci in midfield so if that's the case his back 3 options are Doherty, Mosquera and Pond, unless he moves another of our ultra talented full backs over. Perfect opportunity to try something different.

Thx for that update.
JFW!
Our leadership needs crucifying for forming a squad like this. Crap in both quality and quantity. Taking a back 3 like that to OT in 2025 is just plain ridiculous.

I'd imagine he'll go (and this is awful):

----------------Sa--------------

-----Doherty---Mosquera--Krejci----

Hoever-----J Gomes---Lopez----H Bueno

-----------Mané------Hwang---------

------------------Tolu---------------------

I think he’s more likely to play Arias in midfield than Lopez. Rawlings dangerously close to playing too I’d say and he’s just a kid.

This is like saying "who do you fancy up top, Frank Nouble or Jake Cassidy".

I might flip if that Celta belter comes on here again and says "FerLo" is the answer to our problems. He's fucking dross.

See I don't see Fosun as clearly wanting out of football still, I see them as not wanting to spend the required amount on it, not out.
